Breakdown |
1 |
Barr-Reeve |
Barr-Reeve is coming off of their third State Championship game in the last 6 years. The loss to Blackhawk was tough but they no longer have to worry about that. Barr-Reeve will be far and away the best team in Southern Indiana in 1A this year and they are loaded with returning players like Keegan O’Neill, Jacob Wagler, Brycen Graber, and Hagen Knepp. They will need to find some shooting to replace Gabe Gladish but this team shouldn’t have any issue with toughness, defense, or talent. |
2 |
Lafayette Central Catholic |
The Knights will be heading into this new season off a great 24-5 record and was one win away from making it to the State Finals. What makes this team scary is that they return nearly every varsity player from last season. They return lead scorer and rebounder, Carson Barrett (14.4 ppg, 10.9 rpg), who will undoubtedly be the leader of this squad. Look for breakout seasons from A.J. Bordenet (10.0 ppg) and Clark Barrett (8.1 ppg) as well. What makes this team so successful is that every player contributes and they really play as team. They are also coached extremely well-coached by Coach David Barrett. With an easy scheduled and early post-season, this team has all the opportunity to avenge their Semi-State loss and make it to the Sectional Finals. |
3 |
Covington |
Covington is coming off a 22-5 season where they were very good all year and while they had a couple questionable losses early in the year, they locked in and made it all the way to the Regional Finals. Now, they return nearly everyone from that team. Colton Brown, Logan Pinkerton, Caleb Ellmore, and Daniel Keller all return as 4 of their Top 5 scorers. They still have to find a way to get past Central Catholic, a task they have struggled with but these two teams should be pretty evenly matched this year. |
4 |
Christian Academy |
The Warriors are heading into this season coming off a 16-8 record and tough Sectional loss to Lanesville. The team that they have coming back is a very mature squad. This team will likely be ran by on the three incoming senior prospects: Bailey and Nick Conrad, and T.J. Proctor. This might be one of the best senior classes in the whole state of Indiana. There will likely be very few mistakes that will be made just because of the maturity of this team. Looking at their schedule, this team may be tested at times but expect Christian Academy to have a fantastic season. |
5 |
Gary 21st Century |
Gary 21st is at their culmination as they have had Johnell Davis running this team and their success for a few years now. He’s an all-around phenomenal player and great for a 1A team to have. But, they haven’t been able to get all the way to the State Finals yet. They do have 3 straight Sectional Championships and a Regional Championship. Now, he’s a senior and they have guys like Demondrick Velez and Triyontae Lomax back for a final run. They should be the best team in 1A in Northern Indiana along with Central Catholic so another Semistate matchup seems like a likely meeting place. |
6 |
Bloomfield |
The Panthers will be heading into this year off a great 20-8, Regional Championship season. They may have lost some good outgoing senor but they bring in a new head coach, J.B. Neil, who brings in hos winning mentality into the program. The team will likely be led by great shooting combo guard, senior Turner Royal. A really good JV squad led by point guard Chris Royal will also be brought up to the varsity level. Look for breakout seasons from Noah Cumming and Luke Oliphant. Even with a new head coach, this team likes to play to their strengths. Expect them to have the same or better record and go on another great post-season run. |
7 |
Indianapolis Tindley |
Tindley is under new direction this year with Omar Dillard taking the reigns but also an injection of young talent with Jayden and Jeffery Pinkston. Jayden looks like one of the best incoming freshman in the state and in 1A he could have a very similar impact like former Tindley and now Purdue standout, Eric Hunter. Add in the pieces already on the roster in Christian DaCosta and Michael Robertson and you have a great start for a 1A program. While they will be young, this could be a team that is able to be a problem from Day 1. |
8 |
Morristown |
The Yellow Jackets are coming off a fantastic 22-5 season along with a Sectional Championship to go along with it. They return a solid group of players along with their their two top scorers, Kyle Crim (14.3 ppg) and Trevon Carlton (10.5 ppg). Look for Mattias Livezey and Sawyer Jones to step-up and make the leap forward this season. This is an older team with lots of experience. Nearly the same schedule as last season so expect the same results. This team has the skill and experience to win another Sectional and might be Coach Scott McClelland’s best season yet. |
9 |
Greenwood Christian |
Last year, Greenwood Christian was able to make their first Regional since 2013-14 season. Coming off a 16-11 season and some late season success, Jonny Marlin and GC are looking to make a run again this year. They are losing a few key pieces in Payton Modlin and Quentin Steele but they also return their top 3 scorers. The Mccorkle brothers will be huge this year but also add in Andrew Anderson on the wing and you have quite a bit of offense coming back with size as well for a 1A team. It will be them and Indianapolis Tindley who will be very young in their Sectional so there is a real chance to make it back again this year to the second weekend. |
10 |
Indianapolis International |
The Gryphons will be coming off a 6-15 season heading into Coach Scott Adams second year as head coach. They return a fairly young team with a good amount of varsity experience. The team will be led by junior shooting guard Jaden Thomas (27.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg), who can score in multiple ways. The Tigers will also be led by 6’2 wing Michele Barrantes (10.4 ppg). Look for breakout seasons from Lanard Bolden (5.3 ppg) and Kaleu Tellas (4.4 ppg). This team was pretty young last season so it was hard to judge their potential. Their schedule gives them the chance to improve drastically. This squad should win Sectional and have the opportunity to go even further. |
11 |
Oldenburg Academy |
The Twisters will be coming off a great 16-6 season and return their top three scorers. The leaders for this team will be Jacob Johnson (19.6 ppg), who is a great shooter and knows how to score, and Andrew Oestering (10.3 ppg), who is a smart guard. Look for forwards Zach Wegman (6.8 ppg) and Dempsy Bohman (4.1) to take care of the post. This is a big team that has the talent to play with anybody. They have a fairly easy Sectional thus giving them a good opportunity to go on a deep post-season run. |
12 |
Kouts |
Kouts is coming off a stellar year as they went 22-4 and lost to a great team in Gary 21st Century in Sectionals. Now, they lose their depth as three outgoing seniors are taking a ton of production with them. But, juniors Cole and Cale Wireman return as big time scorers as they scored 17.1 and 14.7 ppg last season. In 1A, that should be enough to keep them near the top of the class. Now, their Sectional doesn’t get any easier as Covenant Christian, Gary 21st, and Washington Twp. are all going to be really good this year, sneaky good 1A Sectional. They should be highly competitive this year with a chance to make a run if they can get out of that Sectional. |
13 |
Loogootee |
The Lions will be coming off a poor record of 9-15 heading into the 2019-20 season. The good news for this squad is that they return a very experienced varsity roster. This team will be led by power forward Silas Bauer. Bauer has a really good chance to be a great defender along with excellent offensive play. Jalen Wildman, Landon Harder, and Levi Pendly are all poised for a breakout season. This team has the potential to be one of the best defensive teams in the state. Expect them to give Barr-Reeve a tough match-up come Sectional. |
14 |
Lanesville |
Last year was a little bit of a rollercoaster for Lanesville as they got started on a hot streak, lost 8 straight and then ended strong going 15-12 and winning another Sectional Championship before falling to Barr-Reeve in Regional Finals. They good news is they bring back their Top 2 scorers in Conor Nolot and Tripp Dillon who scored 16.1 and 15.2 ppg, respectively. They only lose 1 senior with significant playing time and production so expectations should be high. This is a potential Top 5 team in 1A this year. Look for January to be the real test with Christian Academy, Orleans, and North Harrison for 3 straight games. If they are going to make a run, they will have to win 2/3 there to prove themselves a bit. |
15 |
Jac-Cen-Del |
The Eagles will be coming off a slighting above. 500 record heading into this new season. There will certainly be some changes to this team as they will have a new, first year head coach, Jack Day. This year’s team will be led by Justin Ohlmansiek, Wyatt Day, and Brandon Baber. Even with a new head coach, the Eagles return a great group of talent. This team is the type that can run, play fast, loves to shoot. They may have a loaded Sectional, but if this team plays to their strengths, they could walk out a champion. |
16 |
Hauser |
Hauser had a little bit of a down year last year going 12-14 but has been generally one of the better 1A teams consistently over the last 6 years. Now, with another new head coach in Joe Sibbitt, they will try and get things back to rocking and rolling again. They do lose a couple key pieces but return a ton of depth and size. They have a pair of 6-6 forwards in Trey Johnson and Parker Eickbush. At the 1A level, that will already be among the tallest teams in the state. With the depth returning, expectations are to have a moderately successful season with some upside to go well beyond. |
17 |
Providence Cristo Rey |
The Wolves are heading into this season coming off a 16-9 record and tough Sectional loss to Greenwood Christian. This year’s squad returns a loaded incoming senior class. As far as scoring leaders go, look for bucket-getting guards Elkin Ramirez (10.4 ppg) and Jamil Chandler (9.3 ppg) to be the focal point of the offense. 6’7 center Anthony Williams (8.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg) has a chance to be one of the top centers in 1A. Also look for athletic guard/forward Chris Manson (8.4 ppg) to have a breakout season. This could be Coach Bitting’s best team yet. Expect this to be a fun, competitive team come Sectional. |
18 |
Seton Catholic |
1A this year will be a little more wide open than in the past few years and look for a team like Seton Catholic to hover around the better teams this year. With Jacob Moynihan and Jaden Swiderek back, they bring back 2 of their top 4 scorers and their size returns as well in Moynihan. They will need to see a few others step up but they haven’t really had issues with that in the past. Add in the fact that their Sectional ins’t tough at all this year and they are one of the top teams in their Regional. Might have some tough points in this season but should have a great season. |
19 |
Indianapolis Metropolitan |
The Pumas are coming off a solid 16-10 record and Sectional Championship heading into this season. Even though it will be hard to replace a player like Noah Jordan, they return two of their top four scorers. The team will be led by brothers Warren and Wesley Williams, both who averaged a combined 17.0 ppg for the Pumas last season. Look for player like Emanuel Lewis (4.6 ppg) and Derek Anderson (4.5 ppg) to make a big leap forward this year and provide some huge varsity minuets. This is an athletic team that runs the floor very well. Come Sectional time, look for them to be a complete team and compete with Indianapolis International for another Sectional Championship. |
20 |
Argos |
Argos is coming off a 22-5 season where they won their Sectional but fell to State Champion Blackhawk Christian in Regionals. They lose quite a few pieces from that team including Ian Kindig and Lukas VanDerWeele. But they have a great senior class led by Sam Manikowski and Owen Nifong. Manikowski was the team’s leading scorer last year and Owen was 3rd. Their path does get easier as Blackhawk moves up but Gary 21st is still sitting there in a potential Regional matchup. Look for them to get right back to winning but will need to get over the hump and make that deep run. |
21 |
Parke Heritage |
The Wolves will be coming into this season off a bad 8-16 record but return a talented group of players. They return a powerful frontcourt consisting of center Conner Davis (11.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg) and power forward Logan White (11.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg). There backcourt will need be looking to improve so guards like Landen Stewart (4.8 ppg) and Riley Ferguson (3.4 ppg) will be needing to make a leap forward. The frontcourt of the Wolves will for sure be the anchor for this year’s team. Look for this physical team to improve drastically and win a fairly easy Sectional come post season. |
22 |
LIberty Christian |
Liberty Christian has been very good over the last decade and made their runs. Now, they are in a bit of a rebuild mode but have some really good pieces to move forward with. Christian Nunn came in as a freshman last year and was very impressive with 16.5 ppg. They bring back their Top 3 scorers in Nunn, Quentin Edmonds-Long, and Cade McCord and only lose 1 senior. They went 12-12 last year and lost in the Sectional Championship. Expectations are to move forward and they have the high-end talent and pieces returning to do just that. |
23 |
North Daviess |
The Cougars will be coming off an impressive 18-7 season but with a tough Sectional loss to South Knox to add to that heading into this season. They come into this year with five outgoing seniors but do return a good amount of experienced players. The leaders of this squad will be great pull-up shooter Jack Townsend and strong forward Kirk Wagler. Look for point guard Trevor Riggins and forward Jalen Knepp to have breakout seasons. Size could be an issue for the Cougars this year but they should be able to figure out how to work with what they have. This is a team that can flat-out get buckets. They may have the unfortunate task of having to go through Barr-Reeve in Sectional but they have the talent to shock the state. |
24 |
Southwood |
Southwood has been in a really good spot the last few years but they might have graduated a ton of that core. However, what we saw last year is that they are ready to develop new talent every year and compete. Carson Rich and Gabe Lloyd really took to their roles last year to support outgoing senior Dallas Holmes. Braden Barney returns to give them some size as well. They moved out of Central Catholic’s Sectional and are the clear favorite to start the year. Don’t be shocked if this is a Top 10 team very soon this year. |
25 |
South Central-Elizabeth |
The Rebels will be coming into this season off an impressive 16-9 record. They do lose a heavy senior class but they also return some really good talent. Leading that talent is 6’2 combo guard Lucas Stewart. Stewart is a “do-it-all” type guard that averaged 14.2 ppg and 4.5 rpg. Look for a player like wing Dylan Patterson (8.9 ppg. 6.1 rpg) to breakout and continue his physical rebounding. This team is shaping up to be one of the smaller teams in the state. They will need for their big men to step up in the post area. If every player on that roster can make a leap forward, look the Rebel to give Christian Academy a tough match-up come Sectional. |
26 |
Attica |
Attica is coming off their best season is a while going 11-13 and getting a win in Sectionals as well as being ranked late in the year. Now, they have some momentum as they bring back some pieces to build on. Their schedule is quite winnable and if some guys like Brandte Pattengale, Seth Hartman, and Eli Kirkpatrick can return and take steps up to replace the loss of a guy like Aulton Martin, there is some upside for this team. |
27 |
Wes-Del |
The Warriors will be looking to build off their solid 13-10 record a season ago. They will have every chance to do so as they will return their top five lead scores from last year. Wes-Del will likely be led by double-digit scoring trio Caedan MccLaughry (12.8 ppg), Keegan Newsome (11.9 ppg), and Evan Whitesell (10.4 ppg). Also look at other returning lead scorers like Eric Harlan (9.8 ppg) and Joel Dowling (8.4 ppg) to both have a breakout season and reach double-digit scoring numbers. This Warriors team returns a great crop of talent that has lots of varsity experience. Look for them to improve this year and be one of the favorites, along with Liberty Christian, to win Sectional. |
28 |
Blue River |
This past season, Blue River got to 12-11 and had some momentum on the year. They lost in OT in the second round of Sectionals. Now, they only lose one significant piece in Jackson Thornburgh who produced 11.4 points last year. But they return a ton including Andrew Froedge, Brevin Hallett, and Cole Cross which is the majority of their offense. Their Sectional isn’t particulartly difficult with Randolph Southern and Seton Catholic as potential threats. The offense and their size all come back and in 1A that is mroe than enough. |
29 |
Caston |
The Comets are coming into this season off an extremely bad record of 3-18. The good news, however, is that they will return their top eight scorers from last year. They will be led by 6-5 forward Hunter Schanlaub (15.6 ppg, 8.0 rpg). This prospect averaged nearly a double-double and is great on both ends of the court. Caston will also be led by senior Mike Rans (9.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg), who provide hiss senior leadership and great defense. Look sharpshooting trio Cameron Kline (5.7 ppg), Kade Zeider (3.6 ppg), and Luke Lowe (3.0 ppg) to all have breakout seasons. This is a great defensive team that must fins ways to score consistently on the offensive side. Come Sectional time, this team should have much better record than last season. They bring back to good talent and have chance to improve tremendously. |
30 |
Covenant Christian-DeMotte |
Over the last few years, Coveant Christian-DeMotte have not only had some interesting recruits but some really talented teams. Last year, they went 22-5. Now, they do lose Gavin Herrema to transfer but they bring back a duo of Ben Lins (21.9ppg) and Cade Walstra (13.8ppg) both of which are taller than 6’3 on the wings. For a 1A team that gives them a ton of upside. Their schedule won’t be too difficult but their Sectional is stacked with Gary 21st, Kouts, and Washington Twp. They will need to get through that gauntlet still but I wouldn’t be shocked if they put up some numbers this year with wins. |
31 |
Shoals |
The Shoals Jug Rox are coming into this season off a impressive 17-9 record but a loss in the Sectional Championship to Barr-Reeve to add to it. They will also come into season without a solid duo of outgoing seniors Jaycobson Wagoner and Adam Sukup, both who provided big varsity minutes for them last year. They do, however, return two incoming senior studs, Tayson Wright and Max Fischer. Both Wright and Fischer were arguably the Jug Rox’s best players last season and both will look to have a huge senior campaign. Though Shoals is typically a losing program, they could be on their best run of contention at the moment. They return solid talent and have a schedule that can get them some good wins before Sectional arrives. |
32 |
West Washington |
Last year, West Washington started to get their groove back a little bit. They had lost a ton of talent two years before and were building it back up. They ended the season going 3-2 with wins over Henryville, Shawe Memorial, and Crothersville. Now, they bring back a ton of upperclassmen and are setup for a strong run with a schedule that is a bit backloaded. Get some momentum and rely on roster built of experienced guys and multiple players over 6’5. Might be selling low on their upside. |
33 |
Cowan |
The Blackhawks will be coming into season off a terrible 6-16 record and blowout Sectional loss to Southern Wells. They lose heavy chunk of talented outgoing seniors but do return three of their top four scorers from last season. All eyes this season for the Blackhawks will be locked on 6’10 junior center, Riley Duncan. This dominant big averaged a double-double last season as he scored 15.1 ppg and averaged 10.6 rpg as well. While he Duncan may be the main cog in this offense, look for a player like junior guard Jacob Thomas (8.1 ppg) to continue his great pressure defense. Cowan will also return stud forward Simon Underwood (7.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg), who brings back his great rebounding and post scoring. This is a very experienced squad that is returning. Look for them to improve from last season’s poor performance and have the opportunity to come out of a wide-open Sectional bracket. |
34 |
Orleans |
Orleans is one of the more consistent program you are going to find and Tom Bradley knows how to coach. He is 316-169 in 21 years at Orelans. So, expectations are for more of the same. He is in a four year stretch of rougher seasons but their schedule is more reminiscent of a 2A or 3A team than a 1A. Look for the Bulldogs to right the ship a bit here and get back on track. |
35 |
Washington Twp. |
The Senators are coming off a great 17-7 record but have a tough Sectional loss to Gary 21st Century to add to that coming into this season. They only return one of their top four scorers with that player being 6’7 senior power forward, Austin Darnell. Darnell (14.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg), is a very powerful player when in the post area. Look for players like junior guard James Hernandez (5.7 ppg) and senior guard Tyler Hachey (5.3 ppg) to breakout this year and take some pressure off of Darnell in the scoring department. One of the biggest focuses this year for the Senators should be finding the 20 points that outstanding outgoing senior Colin Burton provided them last season. Players will need to step-up in order to have success come Sectional. |
36 |
Lakewood Park |
Lakewood Park is looking to get back into a groove and develop some momentum. This will be the first year since 2015-16 that they have a returning head coach so that will help. Add in some young talent including Caedmon Bontrager and Aiden Fetters. Last year, this talented group of sophomores had a tough season going 7-16 but a year older and a schedule that is still fairly easy, there should be a lot of room to get better during the year. The talent is there now and old enough to impact things. Look for this to be a good year for them. |
37 |
Riverton Parke |
The Panthers are coming into the season coming off a bad record of 8-17 and tough Sectional loss to Attica. The good news about this year’s team is that they have a heavy senior class that will have lots of varsity experience. The team will likely be led by senior guard Brandon Hazzard (9.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg), who is am explosive guard that is tough-minded when he has the ball in his hands. Junior guard Pierson Barns (7.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg) will be looking to have a breakout year this season. Look for dominant bigs Logan Harrison (7.3 ppg, 8.5 rpg) and Garrett Lawson (5.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg) to be one of the top frontcourt duos in the state. Riverton Parke is well built, mature team. They should be one of the favorites along with South Putnam to come out of their Sectional. |
38 |
Springs Valley |
The Blackhawks are coming into this season off a 17-7 record and close Sectional loss to Wood Memorial. The team this year will mostly be made up of a huge chunk of incoming seniors. They will be led by senior guard Connor Nelson (8.1 ppg), who was a top three scorer for the Blackhawks last season. Also leading Springs Valley this season will be junior Javon Gilmore, who is the team’s top returning rebounder at 3.3 rpg. Look for juniors like Lashawn Tutt and Jordan Curtis to have a breakout season as well. This is a very experienced team that will be looking to possibly get revenge on Wood Memorial come Sectional time. |
39 |
South Central-Union Mills |
The Satellites are coming off a very bad record of 4-19 with a blowout loss to Trinton in Sectional last season. There is some room for excitement, however, as this squad will return a majority of their varsity starters. They will be led by Zack Christy (12.3 ppg), who is a senior shooting guard that loves to finish at that basket. They will also be led by powerful, 6’7 center Brendan Car (11.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg). In order for this team to have success, junior guard Brady Glisic (6.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg) and the entire team will need to all step-up. If they do not take the next step, their Sectional will be extremely hard to come out of. However, this is a team that has the experience to show improvement. |
40 |
Eminence |
The Eells will be coming off a bad 11-13 record and blowout Sectional loss to Bloomfield heading into this upcoming season. The good news for this team is that they return two of their top three scorers from last year. They will be led by guards Juilian Webb (12.0ppg, 4.0 rpg), who is a strong finisher to the basket, and Nolan Ringler (7.5 ppg,3.0 rpg), who is a three-point specialist. Center Zeke Newton will be looking to improve his post play (5.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg) as he will be the main player down low. Overall this team is very competitive. Come Sectional time, we expect this team to have a much-improved regular season. Consider them a dark horse to win Sectional, even with the mighty Bloomfield as the favorite. |
41 |
Wood Memorial |
The Trojans are coming off a 9-16 record and tough Sectional Championship loss to Evansville Day heading into this season. They face the challenge of replacing elite outgoing senior Paxton Bartley, who averaged nearly 28 ppg last season. The player that will face the brunt of that challenge will be 6’2 shooting guard Coltin Page, who is a stud around the rim and distributes the ball extremely well. Other shooting guard Griffin Parke, who is an effective shooter that worked on his play at the rim this summer, will be looking to help take some scoring pressure off Page. Look for senior leader Logan Keeker’s great defense and continued development of an outside shot to be a big factor for the Trojans success this year as well. Though all eyes will likely be on Page this season, it will be interesting to see just how Coach Dustin George will get the rest his players to take the next level and make up for the 28 points that Bartley provided them last season. If the team as a whole can step up, look for Wood Memorial to make some nice come Sectional time. |
42 |
Pioneer |
The Panthers are coming off a slightly above .500 record of 13-12 a season ago. They are also coming off a very tough two-point loss to Covenant Christian (DeMotte) in the 1A Sectional Finals as well. The good news for Pioneer is that they are retuning three of their top five scorers from last season. They will be led by 5’8 senior point guard Gage Cripe, who lead the team in assists and rebounds last year. Alongside Cripe, there is their lead returning scorer, senior shooting guard Logan Nusbaum (13.2). Look for forwards Jacob Brown and Hunter Klepinger to step up and prove some much-needed post support for this squad. While there may be some questions in the front court this season, the Pioneer Panthers should be the one of the favorites going into their Sectional come post-season. |
43 |
Northeast Dubois |
The Northeast Dubois Jeeps are coming off a not-so-great 10-14 record a season ago. While that may not sound impressive, there is some room for optimism for this team as they return a trio of stud, junior guards. On the offensive side there is guard Ethan Zieglar, who is a lights-out, three-point shooter. On the defensive side of the ball, there is tough minded guard duo Reece Bauer and Nick Lueken, both who can steal the ball at moment’s notice. Look for junior center Logan Mehringer to step up and provide the much-needed post presence. This team is super aggressive on both ends of the court. Look for them to be a tough matchup against Springs Valley and Vincennes Rivet come Sectional time. |
44 |
Shakamak |
The Lakers are coming into this season off a horrid 6-20 record last year. The team this year is loaded with incoming seniors thus should make them a very mature team. Look for 5-11 smooth guard Coy Gilbert and 5-7 captain Devin Stienstra to control the backcourt this season. As far as the post is concerned, look for 6-4 big men Ethan Webb and Tyler Vivian to provide the post presence. They do have a better chance to improve this season and avenge their close loss to Bloomfield last year in Sectional. If Shakamak can show off their maturity and be smart with their decision making on the court, they have a tremendous opportunity to have a great turnaround from last year’s terrible showing. Look out for the Lakers. |
45 |
Bethesda Christian |
Bethesda Christian is coming off a terrible 7-16 record with most of their core talent being six outgoing seniors. One of the main questions going into this season is just who exactly is going to provide the post presence as two of their outgoing seniors were the main men down low. Senior guard Austin Kelly, who will provide the much-needed perimeter shooting, will likely be the leader of this squad. Look for quick senior guard Ashyton Paddock to step-up this year as well. Though there may seem to be more questions than answers heading into this year for the Patriots, this unit has some great pieces and has a chance to really improve from a season ago. |
46 |
Cannelton |
The Bulldogs are coming off a 10-14 record with a blowout loss to Northeast Dubois in Sectional to add on top of a lackluster season. They do, however, return their leading scorer and rebounder Rafe Garrett. This “do it all” senior, small forward averaged 18.0 ppg and 6.2 rpg last season. Look for 6ft junior guards Nolan Aders and Dylan Young to take some scoring pressure off Garrett as well. This is a small team and will rely heavily on their shooting in order to compete with Sectional opponents such as Springs Valley and Vincennes Rivet. If Cannelton can knock down their shots consistently this year, they could have an improved season and be one of the more competitive teams in the state. |
47 |
Central Christian |
Central Christian is coming off a 17-7 record following a tough Sectional loss to Providence Cristo Rey. The Chargers will look a little different this year as five of their eight seniors were the top scorers of the team. JV standouts like junior shooting guard Tanner Royer (15.0 ppg) and sophomore shooting guard Elijah Mattingly (18.5 ppg) are on track to provide major roles in the backcourt. Look for 6-4 senior forward Kaleb Vonderheide (3.3 ppg) to provide leadership and much of the post presence as well. With their Sectional, they will have tough matchups with the reigning 1A Sectional champs Greenwood and the team they lost to last year Providence Cristo Rey. The good news is this team has enough talent to make an impact. |

Traders Point Christian |
It will be an interesting season for Traders Point as they will be trying to build back up their talent base. They lost Alkiah Caldwell and Alex Terrell which is a big blow. Derek Mount and Thomas Caldwell return, though, giving them some experience. The thing is their schedule, while tough at times, does afford them some leeway to grow and this is a team notorious for always finding a way to finish strong. Can they do it one more year? We will see. |

Daleville |
Daleville is coming off an 8-15 record and while they lost their top scorers, those are the only players leaving. They bring back most of their overall offense including Connor Fleming who average 10.2 points per contest. They don’t have a ton of size so they will have to find a way to overcome that but the two standout sophomores in Camden Leisure and Tim Arnold could help to provide some perimeter shooting to make up for the outgoing seniors. |

Tri-Central |
Last year wasn’t a great one for Tri-Central, but they only lose two Seniors and bring back incoming Senior Michael Carr who scored 10.1 points last year. This is also a program with a really light schedule and if they can find a way to produce more than their 47.1 points per game as a team, no game should be insurmountable. Look for Mason Pickens to be a possible standout this year with a larger scoring role. |
