Pleasant Grove’s 6’2 G Kael Mikkelsen is not only preparing for another successful season at PG, but he is taking all he has learned from those who came before him.
Pleasant Grove has been a force for sometime now in hoops as they have had some talented players come through the program. Playing against such competition in practice results in a lot of growth for players like Kael. ” My defense has has gotten better each year having to guard these guys in practice day after day. It has prepared me to guard just about anyone.” Chasing guys like Casey Brown and Kawika Akina all practice has given Kael the confidence to defend anyone at a high level. “In previous years I’ve had to be the defensive guy, the hustle player, the rebound guy. Now that those players have come and gone my role has gotten bigger, and I’m excited for the challenge.”
When most players from high school to the NBA feel as if their role isn’t big enough they decide to transfer but player like Kael take advantage of their opportunity to grown and wait their turn. “I have loved playing with all those guys. Matt had huge dunks and blocks, it seemed like he was everywhere. Casey had the ability to do anything almost anytime he wanted. Kawika could handle pressure and create for players like me. And for me finding guys open like Tyler Fairbanks we almost always knew it was going in.”
With such an unselfish personality Kael is excited for his teammates. Players like Isaac Vaha, Preston Bushman and Dylan Jones.
Last season Kael averaged 9 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assist a game. As his production will likely increase statistically Kael’s leadership will be the most important aspect of his teams success. Kael is a true two way player that is unselfish.
With a tough pre-season schedule Pleasant Grove will once again be battle tested heading into Region 4 play. Look for Kael to have another solid year.
