This is the final teaser before things get real next week.
There’s plenty of talent in the state of Tennessee, so it was only right to push this series to the limit.
Here are 10 players who are expected to have a solid season:
Quintavious Bailey, Raleigh-Egypt: The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is at his best when he’s in position to catch-and-shoot. Bailey can shoot it off the dribble as well. He’s an automatic 25-point scorer each time he steps onto the floor.
Ty Hurst, Knoxville Carter: The UNC Pembroke commit averaged 17.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game last season as a junior. Hurst could easily end up being a top 20 scorer in Class AA.
Duane Posey, Memphis East: The senior forward is very physical. Posey can play with his back to the basket. His mid-range game will be a plus for the Mustangs if he makes shots at a high clip.
Rodney Mason II, Bartlett: The senior forward is coming off a junior campaign where he averaged eight points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per game. The Panthers lost a lot of seniors from last season, so Mason II will have to step up and lead a Bartlett team that’s looking to make another deep postseason run.
RJ Berkley, MAHS: The 6-2 scoring guard can take the next step this upcoming season by making smarter decisions with the basketball. Berkley is a gifted scorer, and he’s a great slasher. Berkley will just need to allow the game to come to him.
Cam Donegan, Tipton-Rosemark Academy: Many people don’t know how good Donegan is. He played at Ridgeway last season under head coach Wes Henning. Donegan is very quick. Once he gets downhill, not too many people are going to catch him at the rim. Donegan is an underrated defender. In the Division II Class A league, he should average three to five steals per game.
Uriah Powers, Knoxville Webb: Powers is coming off a junior season where he averaged 11.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He will play a key part in the Spartans’ quest for a repeat as Division II Class A state champions.
Davon Barnes, White Station: Barnes averaged 12 points, five rebounds and 1.5 assists per game as a sophomore.
Brian Edwards Jr., Knoxville Catholic: The sophomore guard averaged 17.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game last season as a freshman. Edwards Jr. is one of the most gifted guards in the 2022 class.
Ryan Wilcox, Hillsboro: Wilcox averaged 13 points, six rebounds and two assists as a junior last season. At 6-4, Wilcox has upper body strength and isn’t afraid of contact.
