In the past two days, I have watched four teams scrimmage. I plan to see one more scrimmage before next week. While I have been watching teams scrimmage, I have been putting together a series of players who should have a solid season.
This is the fourth installment.
I may have a part five to finish this series out before the regular season starts next week.
So, I hope everyone has been enjoying this series because I have enjoyed putting it together.
Here are 10 players who are expected to have a solid season:
Grant Slatten, White County: The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is coming off a sophomore season where he averaged 21 points, 4.2 rebounds, four assists and 1.5 steals per game. By the end of the 2019 season, Slatten should be in the top 20 in the state in scoring.
Matthew Sells, Livingston Academy: The 6-3 guard is coming off a sophomore season where he averaged 23 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals per game. Sells is another bucket getter.
Riggs Abner, Mt. Juliet: The 6-5 wing averaged 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals per game as a sophomore. Playing alongside Lipscomb commit Will Pruitt, I expect Abner to get a nice amount of touches and make a high clip of his shots.
Will Pruitt, Mt. Juliet: The senior guard averaged 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals per game last season. Because of Pruitt’s scoring ability, he has a chance to be in consideration for Mr. Basketball.
Eric Rivers Jr., McCallie: Rivers Jr. averaged 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals per game last season. He’s great at slashing to the basket.
Matthew Schneider, Siegal: Schneider averaged 12.5 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal per game as a sophomore. He’s an efficient scorer.
Jesse Payne Jr., Whitehaven: The senior guard is coming off a junior season where he averaged 13 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.3 steals per game.
Kavion McClain, Whitehaven: McClain averaged 12.1 points, 4.1 assists, three steals and 2.5 rebounds per game last season. Playing alongside Jesse Payne Jr., Ragi Phillips and Alvin Miles, the Tigers are going to be tough to beat in Class AAA.
Zion Swader, Siegal: Swader had a solid sophomore season, averaging 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals per game. He’s going to give teams headaches in 2019 because of his quickness and smart decision making.
Marcellus Brigham Jr., Briarcrest: The 6-5 wing averaged 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals per game last season. Brigham Jr. can play positions two through four. He’s a difficult task because of his athleticism.
