There were a lot of primetime players in the spotlight last season, and many of them are back. The 2019 season could be just as entertaining as last season.
To give a little tease to the 2019 season, I’m going to list players who are expected to have a solid season, based off last season.
This is only part one.
Here are the players who are expected to have a solid season:
Johnathan Lawson, Wooddale: The 6-foot-8 guard/forward will be one of the leaders for a Cardinals team that’s looking to repeat as Class AA state champions. Lawson averaged 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals per game a year ago playing alongside his brother Chandler Lawson.
Jalen Brown, Wooddale: The 6-4 scoring guard could be in the running for Mr. Basketball in Class AA. Brown is one of the most talented guards in the league, and his numbers back it up. As a sophomore at Trezevant, Brown averaged 20.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
T.J. Madlock, Houston: Madlock had a great summer playing for Hoop City 16U. He’s progressed as a shooter, which is a plus. Before the summer, Madlock averaged 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals per game for the Mustangs.
Chandler Jackson, Christian Brothers: At 6-4, Jackson was a handful as a freshman in Division II Class AA. His mid-range game came along during the summer with Hoop City 16U. After averaging 15 points, 4.2 rebounds, three assists and one block last season, Jackson is primed for another solid season.
Johnathan DeJurnett, Lausanne: The 6-8 forward can now focus on his senior season after committing to Evansville a week ago. Playing alongside new teammate Moussa Cisse, DeJurnett will be in more one-on-one situations, which will be to his advantage. He averaged close to a double-double last season (14.3 points, eight rebounds) and should see both stats increase in 2019.
Moussa Cisse, Lausanne: Cisse is about 6-11, but he plays like a guard. He can put the basketball on the floor. Cisse can knock down the 3. He’s a solid shot blocker. Cisse is the whole package.
Alex Anderson, Tipton-Rosemark Academy: The South Alabama commit came out of nowhere last season and stunned teams in Division II Class A. Anderson is going to have a microscope on him in 2019, but he’s ready for it. Anderson’s confidence is higher than what it was last season. He’s coming off a sophomore season where he averaged 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
Jacobi Wood, Cleveland: The senior guard led Cleveland to the state tournament last season. He’s primed to do it, again. His leadership will be a plus. Also, his scoring will be beneficial as well.
Keon Johnson, Webb School: Johnson looks to get his team over the hump after falling short in last season’s Division II Class A Boys’ State Tournament. The Tennessee commit is a solid defender and a great slasher.
Jalen Bo Montgomery, Lausanne: The 6-5 senior combo guard will have two big men to lob the basketball to. Teams will not be able to leave Montgomery alone as he can shoot from the perimeter and slash to the basket. Montgomery is very athletic. He’s coming off a junior season where he averaged 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals per game.
