The collection of freshmen and sophomores who made big impacts on their teams will only get stronger with another year of experience under their belts. There are some talented conferences in New Jersey but the NJIL is one that is in great hands for years to come.
Derrick Bueno (2021) | 6’5 SF | Palisades Park
Bueno had a breakout sophomore year both on the football field as a receiver and on the basketball court as a dynamic scorer. At 6’5, he possess size that gives him an immediate advantage. Pair that with excellent athleticism and you have a player who is in for some serious success over the next two seasons in both sports. Bueno can play all five positions and that is a valuable asset for Palisades Park this season.
Connor Cyran (2020) | 6’2 SG | Saddle River Day
Rebounding is all about positioning and effort. There are plenty of guards who can rebound better than big men because of their technique. Cyran is one of those players. He had 19 games with double-digit rebounds last season. Cyran scored near 500 points and was the best passer on Saddle Day River. As a senior, Cyran will return as the No. 1 option on his team.
Jamling Lama (2021) | 6’0 PG | Secaucus
Lama was nominated and received votes as the best sophomore in New Jersey. This was because of his scoring ability and defensive aggressiveness. Lama was a standout on both ends of the court last season. He was a sharp shooter who had active hands on defense and could get in passing lanes. There is no doubt that Lama is one of the must see players in the NJIL this season.
Kunga Tsering (2021) | 6’6 PF | Hasbrouck Heights
Tsering was a walking double-double last season. He had 17 of them last season along with multiple games with six or more blocks. Tsering had a 21 rebound game in a win over Weehawken and followed it up with 26 points and 16 rebounds in the very next game. Tsering put up crazy numbers as a sophomore. Heading into his junior season, he is a player that has size and knows how to use it.

Freshman will always be put on notice. Jones took the pressure of his first high school season and did not disappoint. Jones showed that he could do it all at the point guard position. He was a great shooter from three and from the foul line. He had the ability to assist his teammates and play tough defense on opposing guards. Manchester has a star for the next three years in Jones.
Nick Williams (2020) | 6’3 SG | Elmwood Park
Williams scored in double-figures in every game he played in last season. He finished with over 500 points in his junior season. Some of his best scoring outputs included a 36 point effort against Hawthorne and 33 points against Pompton Lakes. Williams is a proven scorer. He is smooth on the offense end and can dominate his opponent in many ways. Elmwood Park runs their offense through Williams and even with a scouting report, it is hard to game plan for a player like Williams.
