Elijah Jackson 6’0 PG Churchill County 2020 – Jackson has made a name for himself on the football field and the hardwood. One of the top dual-threat QB’s on the west coast is also an elite PG for the 3A state champs. While he gets the majority of his recognition on the football field, his numbers on the hardwood were livable 17.7ppg 4rpg 4apg and 3spg.
Thomas Steele 6’4 SF Churchill County 2020 – Steele has a knack for scoring off post-ups. He’s terrific from 15ft in utilizing a variety of shots to finish around the basket. He and Jackson form a great 1-2 punch for the champs as he poured in 14 and 7 last season.
Mason Whittaker 6’5 SG Spanish Springs 2020 – Whittaker is an intriguing player. He has fabulous size for the position and a versatile skill set. A high academic performer that can get you buckets in a variety of ways including off offensive rebounds. Last season he averaged nearly 8 boards per game from the guard position.
Cordell Stinson 6’6 PF Spanish Springs 2020 – Stinson is a bruising forward that can provide interior defense rebounding and low post scoring. Between he and Whittaker SS should have a terrific 1-2 punch this season. Last year he was a key player in their conference title run as he averaged 10 and 8 per game.
Joseph Summers 5’11 PG Carson City 2021 – Summers is a great example of why the grassroots season is so important for a player’s exposure. I had the opportunity to watch him play quite a bit this summer. He is a high IQ PG that understands the concept of slow being quick. He won’t blow by anyone, but he’s great at using hesitations and ball fakes to keep defenders off balance.
Issac Wood 6’2 PG Galena 2021 – I have to get out to Galena this year. Wood is part of a quintet of Juniors that are expected to contribute for the Grizzles this year. My apologies to Mr. Wood, he has one of the slickest handles in the state and definitely should have made my top ballhandlers list. The lefty uses a variety of COD’s to free himself from defenders and create shots.
Jackson Cherry 6’3 SF Galena 2021 – For every Wood crossover, there’s one from Jack Cherry. In addition to his handle, he may be the best shooter on the team knocking down almost %40 of his 3’s. Teams will have to seriously consider if it’s worth pressing Galena this season.
Cort Ballinger 5’10 PG Bishop Manogue 2021 – The miners have been one of the winningest programs in the state over the last few seasons. The conditions seem ripe for Ballinger to step right in and lead them again. Ballinger is one of the best defenders in the state. He averaged over 3 steals per game and had 11 in one game. BM will be losing their top 2 scorers from last season, so Ballinger will be expected to fill that void.
