We all realize that they are going to receive their share of attention. However, there is plenty of talent at the 3A level. In this article, PH looks at some of the top 3A players in Nevada.
Elijah Jackson 6’0 PG Churchill County 2020 (#26PHN 2020) – Jackson is one of the best athletes period. The two sport star is the alpha on the defending state champions. As one can imagine from an elusive QB, Jackson is a shifty PG with the ability to blow by defenders. Last season he was the leading scorer for Churchill and hit a game-winner at the buzzer to take home the crown.
Ethan Speaker 6’6 SF Boulder City 2021 (#8PHN 2021) – Speaker looks like a D1 wing. He has great size, and doesn’t get enough credit for his athletic ability. He understands how to move without the ball, and can create shots for himself. He spent all summer playing on the Addidas Gauntlet circuit, so I expect him to be prepared to take over the reins at Boulder City this season.
Ray Daniels 6’6 SF Somerset Academy Losee (#22PHN 2020) – Many people don’t know about Ray Daniels, but I was fortunate to watch him this summer. He is a long, athletic two-way player. Daniels can turn offense into defense in an instant. He’s electrifying in transition and can create plays for himself off the bounce. He saw limited action last year at Losee because of transfer issues, however, expect him to have a breakout season this year.
Lucas Walker 5’11 PG Moapa Valley (#23PHN 2021) – Walker is a quick PG with a variety of finishes at the rim. Shoots it well from 3 and proved to be a good playmaker for his team by leading them in assist last season. Walker is also a clutch player that shot over %82 from the free-throw line last year.
Matthew Morton 6’5 SF Boulder City 2021 (#31PHN 2021) – Morton plays Batman to Speaker’s robin. Between the two of them, the Eagles have one of the best 1-2 bunches in the state. Morton can play four positions and is a playmaker for his squad. He doubles as a two-sport athlete as well serving as one of the best tight ends in his conference.
Michael Klekas 6’2 PF Elko 2022 (#10PHN 2022) – Klekas may have one of the highest ceilings of any 3A player. He comes from a terrific basketball family and understands how to play the game. He is undersized for what he does, however, he still has time to develop his outside game. One of the easiest ways to evaluate a player is to look at his production, and Klekas certainly produces. Last season he averaged over 15ppg as a freshman.
