Lake Central, Nick Anderson Knock Off Defending State Champs
Coming off of a spectacular season and winning a State Championship, the target was always going to be on their backs. But without one of their key pieces still vying for a State Championship in football in Nick Flesher, Lake Central was able to knock off the 59ers.
From the looks of it, Nick Anderson had a lot to do with that. The sharpshooter from LC put up 35 points in the win and was really special on the opening night of the season. He’s one of the best available players in the 2020 class and with this performance, it is surely going to turn some heads.
Andrean looked a bit off as they struggled to score well. Individually, they are supremely talented but missing their starting point guard in Flesher takes away from the stable piece on the ball. This outcome really says more about how much we should look at Lake Central right now as that was a great win and they shot 7-14 from three and took advantage at the free throw line.
Culver Academies Looks To Make Run In 4A
Also coming off of a State Championship in 3A, Culver Academies looked to get off on the right foot as they are moving up a class. It was a bit slow early on but Culver pulled away and looked like the powerhouse they are beating Indianapolis Homeschool, 69-54.
Homeschool played really well early on and continued to fight back but Culver was just too aggressive and talented down the stretch. Noah Shook and Luke Ruddle looked great in the parts we were able to watch. They shot the ball at a really high level.
Culver will miss Ethan Brittain-Watts as an on-ball guard but Trey Galloway seemed to handle that pretty well. He was the guy all game long, showing an improved efficiency and scoring 27 points int he win. They also have a little more size than last year as Nick Gravesites looks like a player to help this year.
Seeger Freshman Puts Up 20 Points In Debut
While this is a little bit of a shameless plug, it is still very helpful and a benefit. The reason a guy like Owen Snedeker is already on our radar is because he participated in our Freshman Showcase this past year and turned our eyes then. And now, he’s doing it again.
The 6’2 wing is already a big kid and with tons of strength he showed that he wasn’t going to have any problems handling the limelight at the Varsity level as he put up 20 points in Seeger’s win over Faith Christian. He’s built to score int he lane and has a pretty capable jumper. What was maybe most impressive is that he scored 9 points in the 4th quarter to secure a close, 45-43 win. Most of that came from the free throw line as he went 5/8.
This is just the first game to watch but he’s a kid that from Day 1 is in our line of sight and proved our early evaluation correct to this point. Will be fun to see how he progresses.
