CHCA (Division III) and Cincinnati Christian (Division IV) both have multiple difference-makers — productive guys who can play college ball. Plus the Summit Country Day (Division III) program cannot be counted out.
The other part of that equation is looking at the D-III and D-IV regional contenders in Southwest Ohio. Although Taft is the obvious preseason pick for D-III, there isn’t a team that CHCA or Cincinnati Christian will be overwhelmed by from a talent perspective. For reference, other teams that stand-out on paper include Anna, Deer Park, Gamble, and Stivers in Division III, then Cedarville and Jackson Center in Division IV.
So, we’ll see! The Miami Valley Conference might be represented at the state tournament this year!
In the meantime, here are our All-Conference predictions:
First Team
Cole Fisher (2020) | 6-2 G | CHCA
Last season’s Scarlet Division Athlete of the Year comes back with more help in the backcourt and an even greater athleticism advantage. With more ball-handling and scoring depth surrounding Fisher, his junior season averages of 18.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists seem sustainable. The senior multi-sport prospect is a real threat to drive or shoot when he catches on the wing.
Jake Younkin (2020) | 6-2 G | CHCA
Younkin, a Moeller transfer, is set for a breakout season in his first year in a prominent varsity role. The edgy combo guard can shoot it from all over the court. Younkin packages his role as a floor-spacer with the ability to create for others with his floor vision. Should be able to defend three positions in this league, maybe even four on certain nights.
Logan Woods (2022) | 6-1 G | Cincinnati Christian
Woods is the top underclassman in the Miami Valley Conference having picked up a Miami (OH) offer in the summer. He tied for the league’s top assist man as a freshman at 4.2 per game, adding 12.6 points per night, too. Woods is dynamic off the dribble as the quick guard keeps his head up to survey the floor. Shoots the ball well from beyond the arch.
Curtis Harrison (2020) | 6-7 F | Seven Hills
Harrison has been a full-time varsity player since his freshman season, yet he has never played more than 14 games because of injuries. Hopefully this can be his year, though, as Seven Hills needs Harrison more than ever with 2019 graduate Brice Hill off to Wittenberg.
The combo forward can do a number of things at 6-foot-7 and is the most naturally talented player in the league — a Buffalo offer brings credibility to that claim. He can attack from the perimeter on straight-line-drives and has a dynamic first step. Displays great lift when he rises for a mid-range jumper or finish. Rebounds and blocks shots at a high-level. Harrison can also lead the break off the defensive glass.
Aaron McCoy (2020) | 6-1 G | Miami Valley Christian
