However, they played well. They competed and played hard on both sides of the ball. They do have some talented pieces that could make them a team that could make a run into the playoffs.
The Offense
The offense seemed to run through Kalen Wilkerson and Kyle Panther. They were able to get that duo going at times and made real strides into being a threat on the offensive end. At times though, the offense got stagnant. They played slow and did not move the ball much. It seemed like if the first option was not their they did not know what to do next. That being said though, it could just be a preseason hangup and their offense could start rolling to start the season. They have the pieces to have a balanced offense.
The Defense
The Pirates played hard on the defensive side of the ball. They play under control and with discipline. They have the fundamentals down and communicate well. They also have a presence on the inside that makes their opponents have to shoot over their big man or pass it to the perimeter.
Players to Watch
Kalen Wilkerson 2021 Locust Grove Post
Wilkerson was the best player for Locust Grove this weekend. He has good size and length with the ability to play fast. He is athletic and can step out to the wing on both sides of the ball. He can guard at multiple levels on the defensive side of the ball. His length helps him get into passing lane and get blocks inside the lane. He is also a good rebounder. He does the fundamentals well and boxes out his opponent to get easy boards. Wilkerson’s offensive game is helped a lot by his ability to step out and hit shots from the perimeter. He is better from mid-range but he can also step out and hit from behind the arc.
Kyle Panther 2020 Locust Grove Guard
Panther was Locust Grove’s best guard from the Broken Arrow Showcase. He played under control and took care of the basketball. He has good handles that got him out of some sticky situations. His best attribute is his vision. Panther could thread the need and the ball where it needed to go.
