Charlie Bender – 2021 – G – Lake Mills
Bender had a team-high 14 points in Tuesday’s loss. The junior guard has really nice size (6-3) and used it shoot over the top of defenders. Bender can catch-and-shoot from 3-point range and do a little bit off the dribble as well. If he’s given space to operate, Bender can make things happen 1-on-1. Bender has a quick first step off the catch and is a little more athletic than he looks. He’s also a talented defender that uses his length well on that end of the floor to disrupt things.
Mike Herrington – 2020 – G – Lake Mills
You watch Herrington, he won’t blow you away with anything that he does, but the senior guard is just smart and picks his spots very well. Wouldn’t consider him a major offensive threat, but he’s definitely not a guy you can fall asleep on because he’ll make you pay. Herrington was very efficient against a good defensive team in Stoughton. When he got favorable matchups or realized the defense was out of their lanes, Herrington exploited it. Whether it was lazy zone defense, failing to get out to the perimeter, or driving lanes that became available, Herrington was able to make the right play at the right time, finishing with 13 points in a low-scoring affair.
Adam Hobson – 2020 – SF – Stoughton
Hobson didn’t shoot the ball as well as he would have liked or is capable of, but still had a sizable impact on Tuesday’s win. The Michigan Tech commit had three huge assists in the second half to help the Vikings put the game away. The 6-foot-5 swingman caught in high percentage areas, drew defenders to him, and sliced open the defense with some precision passing. Credit Hobson, who didn’t let his offensive woes impact the rest of the game. The senior wing is also a big leadership presence on the floor for Stoughton and is always the first guy to give his teammates praise when they’ve done something well.
Nathan Hutcherson – 2020 – PG – Stoughton
Hutcherson said all of his college interest at this time is for football, but he could potentially make it as a small school point guard. He’s only about 5-foot-9, but makes up for it with some added length and deep 3-point range. Hutcherson hit four triples in Tuesday’s win and did a great job of moving the basketball and swinging it around the horn to shift the defense and open things up for his teammates. Hutcherson was steady throughout the night, understanding what his jobs on the floor are and playing mistake-free basketball.
Cael McGee – 2021 – SG – Stoughton
It’s not a secret that McGeen can score the ball. An athletic, highly aggressive guard, McGee is tough to contain with his blend of strength and power going to the basket paired with a high motor that doesn’t stop. He’ll mix it up a little with some 3-pointers, but the lefty wants to get to the rim and relishes contact. While he finished with a game-high 22 points, it was some of the other things that grabbed our attention. McGee appeared more engaged defensively and as a rebounder. When he let the game come to him and used his defense to spark his offense, McGee showcased a new level of efficiency and it sparked Stoughton to a second half run that all but put the game out of reach. That included a key offensive rebound and putback and a charge. Immediately after that spurt, McGee connected on back-to back triples.
