Let’s take a glance at some of the teams and players that will be in the building, as there is quite a bit of talent that will be on display.
Sanderson HS 2020 Forward Tylan Green: We love the potential he has, he’s the type of player that you don’t really have to run any offense for. He creates his own offense by running the floor, rebounding and finishing above the rim. JUCO programs should already be blowing his phone up as it will be a route that he may need to take, D2 programs should be keeping a close eye on him as well.
71st HS 2023 Derrick Green: The 6’7 freshman hasn’t played many high school basketball games yet but he is already showing the potential he has to be special. Efficiency is one area of his game that you have to love, once he gets the ball in the post, he’s pretty much going to make the correct play the majority of the time.
Cardinal Gibbons 2020 Guard Michael Boney: With the squad losing their leading scorer last season to graduation, there were questions as to who would step in and fill the void. So far he’s been one of the players to step in and provide a nice amount of offense as he is averaging 22 PPG as well as 6 rebounds per so far.
High Point Central: They didn’t have one player in particular that stood out when we got the chance to see them at the Southern Lee Jamboree earlier this month. However what they did show was a very high level of intensity and enthusiasm for their squad, every player was constantly engaged on both ends of the floor which led to an impressive defensive showing for the team.
West Carteret 2020 PG JJ Williams: He’s coming off of a 17 Point, 4 assist per game season which helped to lead his team to a record of 19-6. In their matchup with 71st HS, he will need to have a big time showing as 71st is a team that plays at a slower pace and feature a nice amount of height.
Durham Hillside 2020 Guard Trey Crews: The Hornets lose two out of three of their leading scorers to graduation but Crews is one that is returning and should provide some valuable scoring. He averaged 12.3 PPG last season but this season he should see more opportunities and we saw flashes of his potential last year as he had multiple 20+ point games.
