Soccer is in it’s state tournament and spring sports will be here before you know it. Here’s a look at some of the best basketball players who also play other sports. There are certainly some players missing from this list. This is not a comprehensive list and I’m sure that there are players worthy of this list who are not on it.
Amirion Joyce Amirion Joyce 6'1" | PG Paducah Tilghman | 2020 State KY , Bourbon County – Amirion is a top 20 basketball player in the Senior class and has multiple scholarship offers in football while his recruiting is starting to heat up on the gridiron. With his athleticism, he can be a really good point guard or a tough defensive back in college. Joyce has 400 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns as a WR and 5 tackles and a Pick 6 INT on the defensive side of the ball.
Rashad BIshop, Ballard – Rashad has length and athleticism. He’s got football offers as a big wide receiver and has a basketball offer as a power forward. Bishop is huge and could be an Ahmad Wagner type athlete who can high point the football on go routes or can grab a dozen rebounds on the court. He has 237 receiving yards and 3 TD catches for Ballard this season.
Malachi Corley Malachi Corley 6'0" | PG Campbellsville | 2020 State KY , Campbellsville – Corley is a legitimate Mr. Football candidate and one of the best players in a loaded 5th region. Malachi has 530 yards rushing and 606 yards receiving with 19 total touchdowns along with 54 tackles, a sack and 4 forced fumbles. He’s also got scholarship offers in both sports.
Mason Sullivan Mason Sullivan 6'3" | PF Marion County | 2020 State KY , Marion County – On the gridiron, Sullivan has 1310 passing yards along with an 11-3 touchdown-interception ratio and 219 rushing yards with 6 scores on the ground. He’s also added 25 tackles and 2 sacks on defense. On the basketball court, Mason is a double-double machine and one of the most consistent players for the Knights.
Seth Williams, Johnson Central – Williams was at Paintsville last year. He’s already committed to Louisville for baseball and had an impressive Junior season. Williams hit .444 with 10 HR and 34 RBIs and was a perfect 15/15 in stolen base attempts and even posted a 1.62 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched. He also averaged 13.8 PPG on the court and is going to help Johnson Central this season as a steady guard.
Jabari Kyle Jabari Kyle 6'2" | PG Middlesboro | 2020 State KY , Middlesboro – Kyle never played football until this season but better late than never. He’s got 1,022 rushing yards with 19 touchdowns on the ground and added 364 yards and 4 touchdowns receiving. He’s added 26 tackles and 2 INTs on the defensive side of the ball. Jabari is also on the short list to be a contender for the 13th region player of the year in basketball.
Zak Perdew Zak Perdew 6'0" | PG Bullitt East | 2020 State KY , Bullitt East – Perdew is one of the best Seniors in Central KY but he’s also a star on the pitch. He scored 21 goals (58 total points) in his soccer season for the Chargers. They made it all the way to semi-state before falling. Now Zak is getting ready for a basketball season where he’s likely the front runner for player of the year in the 6th region.
Joe Benton Joe Benton 5'10" | PG Estill County | 2020 State KY , Estill County – Joe is a scholarship level basketball player but his future lies on the golf course. Benton led Estill County to their 6th place finish at the state golf tournament, good for highest in school history. On the court, Benton returns for his Senior year after scoring just under 17 points per game as a Junior and helping get the Engineers to Rupp Arena in his Sophomore year.
