White County guard Kegan Dodson made Top 20 Game based on three AboveTheRim coach recommendations. He can score decently in shorter traffic or create off-the-dribble. As a senior, Dodson will play a prominent role with White County High School. His skills are strong enough that both superstar junior Grant Slatten and fellow senior Masyn Winningham can relinquish ball-handling responsibilities somewhat.
Dodson stands 5-foot-7 with size 11.5 shoes. His wingspan is 5-foot-7, as well. The hands of Dodson, which are adept at shooting, measure 8.0″ inches from “heel” of the palm to the middle fingertip. Anatomically, Dodson’s hand was measured at the lowest point of the lunate and scaphoid bones. For what it is worth, 8.0″ was the mode measurement for this event.
Though he played off the ball a decent amount at the combine, Kegan is a natural point guard. He possesses a comfortable crossover and hesi. The quickness is ok, not staggering. Facing tall wings or extraordinarily tall high school guards, Dodson needs to utilize these moves to create a little separation.
Movement off the ball is adequate. He needs to make sharper cuts and more purposeful flairs. Dodson’s strength of shooting becomes moot if he doesn’t create a beautiful passing window for his teammates. Getting out in the open floor is a strength. He astutely hunts those wings of the three-point arc.
Last season, White County finished the season with 23 wins. They advanced to the R3AAA Regional Semifinal, losing to Cleveland High School. Key wins included: Cookeville (1 of 3 times played), Elizabethton, Warren County twice, and Bradley Central in Regional Quarterfinal, 53-50.
With Slatten, Winningham, Micah Webster, and Kegan Dodson serving as veteran scorers with skill, White County’s Warriors are favored to win their first District Tournament Championship since 2017.
