Julius Rhodes @PrepHoopsTN/AboveTheRimGym Fall Combine Recapture
After the combine, Julius shared that he was competing injured. “I hyperextended my quad two days before camp.” Everything should be viewed with this asterisk in mind.*

NBA Stylistic Comparison: 2013 Bobcats Chris Douglas-Roberts
Steady improvement from Julius Rhodes landed him in his first PrepHoopsTN All-Star Game. After showcasing secure dribbling and an unforeseen smoothness all day long, Rhodes competed in the PrepHoopsTN Top 40 All-Star Game.
Julius Rhodes is a 5’9″ point guard. Back at the 2018 combine, Rhodes looked less sure-handed. He had a serviceable shooting touch, but didn’t really project like a lead guard. That evaluation of mine undervalued his capacity for improvement as a ball-handler. He can get around guys now. Not every time, but Rhodes is a dual-threat point guard. He is very similar to what Jalen Cincore was early in his high school career. Cincore, now with Georgia Southern, also had a thin, spindly frame with good skills. He grew into a 6-foot-5 scorer and ended his high school career with Bartlett High ranked #17 in the state. Is Rhodes destined for the same greatness? Who can say? It is encouraging to see the development he did make in the last year.
*Of all of the measurements, the most vexing is Rhodes’ lane agility. He needs to get a lot more sharp and explosive changing directions. The test measures those two attributes. Rhodes didn’t appear slow or “unquick” in the run of play, but those times are slow.*
With Rockvale High, a brand new school and obviously a brand new basketball program, Julius will be given an incredible opportunity to play varsity as a sophomore. He should start! He would have another year of working behind the Blackman starters without the new school, so the sterling sophomore was given a break. Keep an eye on what he does with it.
