Micah Causey, a 2022 point guard out of St. Thomas More High School, stands at just 5-foot-8. Causey is the shortest player on his high school and AAU teams. Yet, somehow, the point guard, who is constantly overlooked by his opponents, scored 11.2 points per game as a freshman on a varsity squad. He also started at point guard for Wisconsin Playground Club White, which boasted one of the most complete 15U rosters in the whole state.
So, if Causey is just 5-foot-8, what does he have that other short prospects don’t?
Besides possessing quickness, great court vision, and a nose for the ball, Causey has heart. Every time he steps on the court, it is clear that he wants it more than the guy lining up across from him.
“I think what separates me from others is I’ll outwork anyone, and I always keep the “kill or be killed” mentality and I just refuse to get “killed”. And I really want to be great and I’ll do whatever it takes for that to happen,” Causey told Prep Hoops Wisconsin.
When asked about how he uses his height to his advantage, Causey said “I know I’m not tall so I use my speed, quickness, and strength as advantages. Outside of basketball training, I stay in the weight room working on my body and continuing to better myself. I’m always getting overlooked due to my height so I carry that chip on my shoulder at all times. That’s why I love the quote “heart over height” but growing up I always played against bigger and better guys so that helped me with my game today.”
At this point in his young career, Causey still has many things that he needs to improve.
“I think I need to improve by shooting more jump shots, but other than that I want to improve my game all around. Every day I just want to be better than I was yesterday.” He continued saying, “I also want to improve my mental, when I’m going through adversity I need to stay mentally strong and continue to keep playing my game.”
Micah Causey told Prep Hoops Wisconsin that he is not currently getting any interest from college programs. That will change. As the point guard continues to improve, expect Causey to introduce himself to multiple different colleges.
When first watching Causey play, it is easy to see that he doesn’t have the height of most prospects. But, if you were to continue watching him play, it is clear that he has heart. His heart is what will eventually fill up his mailbox with college interest letters.
