On many occasions the private schools prevail and gets the win. That was the case here, although Pioneer the public, played with energy and lots of hustle, it was a 10 point game for 3 qtrs, but they couldn’t keep it from getting away in the 4th qtr. Final score 73-48. St Francis the private school plays in the (WCAL) league and arguably the toughest in NorCal. Here are some standout prospects from the game.
Pioneer High School San Jose CA.
Justice Owens 5’9 2021 guard was impressive throughout the contest, knocking down long range 3’s and shifty ball handling with no look passes. He had three 3’s early in the contest to keep his team within 10. Right before half he was fouled on a 3 point shot at the buzzer. A 4pt play to give his team a lift and cut the lead to 11. Owens finished the game with 21 points.
Josh Kendra 6’1 2021 guard. Always gives you his best effort on both ends of the floor. He had some success on the drive from the half court sets his team was running. Kendra is most effective in the open court when he goes hard to the rim. He’s a tenacious defender who gets back on defense in a hurry or he will be aggressive in guarding man to man full court. He finished with 8 pts and a solid defensive game.
Hamdi Sherif 6’2 2020 . A wing who will help with the scoring, added two 3’s early in the 2nd qtr, and is capable of contributing more to the success of the team. He’s athletic, and fast enough to be a good defender, his passing was good, and he ran the floor well in transition. He accounted for 8 pts.
Sean Crowley 6’4 2022 and Joseph Mayer 6’5 2021 will provide some size and inside play for this team, although it gives them an inside presence both players will need to work on their offensive skills. Mayer works hard at defending and rebounding, and is improved.
St Francis
Trevor Leon 5’10 2020 guard and his backcourt mate Kyle Rosecrans 6’0 2020 provided a glimpse of what the Lancers are going to need for success this season. The backcourt duo accounted for 24 pts in this contest, on drives to the basket and knocking down open jumpshots. Both players are kind of similar in what they bring to the court, good ball movement, cutting without the ball and good passing. Both are aggressive trying to defend. They compliment each other.
Ryan Daily 6’5 2020 Forward didn’t score a bunch of points in this game, but his presence was felt rebounding and defending in this game. He’s a tough minded prospect who’s capable of scoring in different ways. He works to get into the action from transition, his screening and moving without the ball was noticeable in this game. He’s a football player so he’s still rounding into basketball form. A key player for this team.
John Frazier 6’6 2022 .The big bodied forward came off the bench in this game and added 9 points. He has good size and did a good job of playing in the post when he was in the game, he’s capable of making a solid contribution on this team. He’s going to help this team with his rebounding and defensive post play. While adding a few buckets.
