Film Breakdown: Nick Anderson
The obvious to come out of this is his production in this game. 35 points is quite a bit and he did it in a variety of ways. Known more to us at this point as a shooter, he sure showed that off going 4-7 from distance and he had no trouble getting his shot off. He’s very quick and deliberate with his movement that he’s almost always going to be in position before you realize it. Then he can go and get the ball into position quickly and has a high release. At 6’2 and with how he positions his hands, it isn’t an easy thing to stop.
The other big thing to come out of this was his driving. He was quite a bit tougher and quicker than we had seen previously. He was taking on a ton of Andrean’s bigger guards and wings and had no issues with their length because he just beat them to his spot every time. He was also able to handle their physicality and finish through contact. He drew a ton of fouls and made nearly all of his free throws going 13/14 on the night.
It’s not likely this will be the new normal for Nick but he should show the potential. He will still need to add strength to the frame and that won’t come until college. His skill set, even if you just break it down to his shooting ability, he can be a capable player for most small school programs. If over the course of the season, that dribble-drive skill set establishes itself and he continues to battle at the bucket, could see some of the better in-state programs taking a look because it shows the room for growth.
Within this class, there are not a ton of shooters in the marketplace so Nick shouldn’t have any issues finding a home. He already holds offers from IU-South Bend, Wabash College, and Albion. Would think more NAIA programs could take a look as he holds pretty solid grades and test scores that could help on the financial end.
