Who will win the SWAC?
The South Wake Athletic Conference is wide open this season after Holly Springs Golden Hawks went 12-0 behind the play of big man Kadin Shedrick. This season, they’ll be led by Kaleb Scott and DeMarcus Elliott but they’ll be challenged by the likes of Apex Friendship, Garner Magnet and others.
Apex Friendship is an experienced squad
The Apex Friendship Patriots should be an early favorite to win the SWAC given the experience in their starting rotation. Nick Farrar, Jayden Beloti, Jeremiah Baker, Jackson Spencer and Kenny Noland all possess their own set of skills that should allow them all to be successful in 2019-20. They should be a fun and talented squad to watch this season for a number of reasons.
Can Garner Magnet repeat their magic again?
In 2018-19, the Garner Magnet Trojans went 9-3 and finished second in the SWAC standings and defeated Apex Friendship early in the season in overtime. This season, there will be a lot more challenges for senior guard Chris Nobles and sophomore forward Asa White and the Trojans. It will be interesting to see how they respond to this year’s talented conference.
Taking A Step Forward
Last season, three teams in the SWAC won three games or less in conference action. Apex, South Garner and Fuquay-Varina are three teams due to take a step in the right direction in the 2019-20 and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see one of these teams finish at the top of the final conference standings.
