Preseason Player of Year
Matthew Ambrose (Stevenson)
Ambrose had a monster junior year and is back for more! The coach’s son can flat out shoot the rock from three. Elite level jump shooter that lets it fly whenever he gets a chance. More than just a sniper he has improved as a ball handler and as a distributor over the last year. High level leadership qualities.
Preseason Conference Favorite
Stevenson comes into the season as the team to beat, but it won’t be easy! The Patriots are coming off a season last year where they exceeded expectations. Now they have the target on their back. Ambrose leads the way with help in the backcourt from his exciting playmaking brother Evan Ambrose. RJ Holmes will bring athleticism, scoring, and rebounding up front. Watch for John Ittounas, Matthew Kaznikov, and James Qualley to each step up! Zion Benton is always a physical team and they are led by one of the most competitive and tough juniors in the state with Amar Augillard. High flying senior combo forward Damontae Taylor will put up highlights! Mundelein has a junior D1 duo of Conor Enright (Drake commit) and Scottie Ebube who are among the best at their positions in the state’s 2021 class. Trey Baker is another one to watch for Mundelein!
