The 6’9 stretch forward has seen his stock skyrocket in the last year and offers began to pour in after a spring and summer on the UAA circuit with Washington Supreme. Jackson garnered offers from a handful of schools including Wisconsin, Stanford, Oklahoma, California and more. When it came down to it, Washington’s pitch was too strong to deny.
Olympia High School’s star junior mentioned, “Looking back on it, it does seem my recruiting went quick. It began and ended in a matter of months, but really it didn’t feel too quick at all. I had a good feel for a few schools that were interested in me and UW was the right fit.” The original plan was not to commit until after the high school season, but in the back of his mind, he knew that he would commit if a school felt right.
Jackson’s official visit to UW had a strong impression on him. “I thought it over for a few days and talked it over with my parents and we decided UW was right for me, so I called Coach Hop Wednesday night right after they landed in Alaska.” He proceeded to call other coaches that were recruiting him over the course of the next few days, then the official public announcement came out on Saturday (11/9). Washington’s main pitch was about being a hometown hero on their team. “Opportunities you have as a hometown kid are unmatched and that was what they really stressed to me.” Washington did a great job of giving Jackson the sense that they would always take care of him and UW has a great track record of doing so with former players.
“It feels really good to kinda be done with that part [recruiting] and just focus on school and high school season now. And just working hard towards the future and not have to worry as much about who is in the stands at any given time.” A big pickup for the Huskies, Jackson Grant currently ranks third in the state of Washington and #67 overall nationally by Prep Hoops.
