I’ll be going through a couple of different leagues in the area that I’ll be covering at various points this season and highlighting a few key players from that league to look out for. These players aren’t necessarily stars on the team. Some of them might be, but others are key cogs that might play an important role on the team’s success this year.
Here’s a look at some of those players from the Coliseum League.
1. K.J. Bradley – Crenshaw 2021
Bradley is a solid point guard who had a strong summer playing for Los Angeles Elite. This season, he appears ready to quarterback the Cougars. He is always looking to make the right play and be a facilitator for his teammates. He may not be the tallest player on the court, but he gives his all every play and tries hard defensively. Quick on the break and strong finisher at the rim.
2. Chris Page – Fremont 2021
An incoming junior, Page took a big leap last season and was a major part of a resurgent Pathfinders team that had a solid postseason run. With a couple of seniors graduated, look for Page to really solidify himself as the team’s top scorer. He can create his own shot on the perimeter and he’s an athletic finisher around the rim. He’s a good shooter from the outside and has a solid off the dribble game.
3. Fidelis Okereke – King/Drew 2020
Okereke is an incoming senior and currently holds an offer from Cal State Dominguez Hills. He is in the mold of being a dominant big man defensively at the high school level this season. He is versatile in that he can man the paint and block shots, and he has the foot speed and skill to stay with wings on the perimeter. He showed some offensively versatility over the summer too with being able to put the ball on the floor and shoot from the outside.
4. D’Anthony Ward – Washington Prep 2020
Ward is a quick guard who pushes the tempo well in transition. He can blow past the defense and get all the way to the rim. At the rim, he can absorb contact and finish the play. Can get himself to the free-throw line. He’s a solid playmaker too, setting his teammates up for easy buckets. Runs the pick and roll well and probes the defense.
5. Jaden Charles – Dorsey 2020
With the mass exodus of key players from last season’s team, Charles seems poised to have a big impact for Dorsey this season. He is a scoring guard who is very athletic and strong. He uses his size to his advantage and can easily overpower smaller defenders. He has a solid slashing game and can finish well at the rim. Can finish with contact.
