This area isn’t part of NorCal, but some of these programs might match up in tournaments or in the regional playoffs later in the season. The scrimmage was at Clovis West High School. These prospects stood out most on this day.
Clovis West HS
Cole Anderson 6’3 2021, already has a couple of DI offers. He brings a consistent 3 point shot every time he steps on the court. He can handle the ball well enough to get his shot off, he attacks the rim with either hand. He plays with energy on both ends of the courts. One of the top prospects in the 2021 class in the area. Max Phillips 6’5 2020 prospect whose really good around the rim, he runs the floor in transition and he’s a quick leaper off of two feet, he had several put packs.
San Joaquin Memorial
Jaden Geron 6’7 2021 wing looks like a decent spot up shooter from the wing/corners. He has some ability to put it on the floor and drive to the basket with some success, plays under control. Miles Davis Jr, 6’4 2023. An impressive showing by the newcomer. He was active around the basket all day, his footwork was good, he finished with both hands around the basket including a nice jump hook. On defense his long reach changes shots, he’s aggressive on the defense end going after rebounds.
Bullard HS
Justin Parks 6’8 2020 post area prospect who want play away from the basket. He’s active in what he’s trying to do, but he can be more effective on the block. He’s got a solid frame and going to get stronger, his work around the basket will improve if he works on it. He tried to dunk everything. A good rebounder. If he develops his midrange and ball handling he’ll raise his game. Omarian Thomas Marshall 6’3 2021. He’s got a solid body and attacks from the wings and baseline really well, also displayed an ability to defend.
Hoover HS
This team has a couple of prospect I hadn’t seen before. A.J George 6’4 guard 2021 is a big guard who has point guard tendencies. He’s not super fast, but has good flow when he’s got the ball. With his size, handles, and his head up, he’s looking to pass first in transition, but can take it all the way. He can score around the basket. Z.J Cotton 5’9 2023. Showed some potential as a youngster, has good speed and handles with the ball, and can get to the basket, he has good body control. I’ll keep an eye on these two.
Edison HS
This team has depth and good size, and speed to go with some athleticism. Obadiah Curtis 6’2 2020 is a solid guard with good handles and speed with the ball. Don’t underestimate his ability to get into the paint, and finish off of one or two. He has a nice mid range shot and good body control. He has long arms, good lateral movement and can be a solid defender. Avery Johnson III 6’5 wing 2021. My first look at this prospect. He’s athletic and displayed some versatility. He knocked down 3’s from long range, he showed decent handles making his way to the basket for strong finishes. He had some nice rebounds and put backs for two. A solid defender. I will continue to watch this prospect.
