Whether it is a shooting guard or small forward, a good wing player works as the perfect compliment for a point guard. The class of 2021 is loaded with wing talent as the top two players in the class play on the wing. Here are the top wing players in the junior class.
Jonathan Kuminga, SF Patrick School
Kuminga is the top player in the class of 2021 and might be the best player in the state. The 6’8 forward is a complete player on the offensive end as he can score at all three levels. Kuminga is able to get to his spot on the perimeter and has good handles.
He is a good athlete who loves to finish above the rim. Kuminga has over 20 offers and will easily be part of the 2021 McDonald’s All-American Game. The Congolese forward has the brightest future of any player in the state and should be a first team All-State member this season.
Trey Patterson, SF Rutgers Prep
Patterson is an elite talent who excels at getting to the basket. He has a smooth post game and understands how to finish around the basket. Patterson is not a great three-point shooter, but is capable of knocking down mid-range jump shots.
He is a force on the glass as Patterson grabbed 256 rebounds in his sophomore season. The 6’7 forward is one of the top rebounders in the state and should easily be a 20-10 guy in 2019-20. Patterson is one of the top players in the state and will be looking to regain his status as the top junior in New Jersey.
Zach Hicks, SF Camden Catholic
Hicks might not have the most well-known name, but he is one of the top juniors in New Jersey. The 6’7 forward is a solid all-around scorer as he can get to the free throw line, shoot the jumper and score in the mid-range. Hicks is also a good rebounder as he had a double-double against Washington Township last season.
His length and athleticism allows for him to make plays on the defensive end as he is an underrated shot-blocker. Camden Catholic lost Uche Okafor and Babatunde Ajike to graduation and need someone to step up in the frontcourt. Hicks is the guy to replace their scoring as he has the potential to be a top-20 player in New Jersey.
Jerome Brewer, SF Camden
Brewer might be the most underrated player in the state. He led the Panthers in scoring last season, despite playing with high-major players Lance Ware and Ta’Quan Woodley. Brewer is a pure scorer as he eclipsed the 20-point mark on seven different occasions in his sophomore campaign.
He excels at finishing around the basket and getting to the free throw line. Brewer is not a marksmen from deep, but he can make defenses pay for giving him space. Camden has big expectations for this season and Brewer’s scoring could take them to the top of Group II.
