It got me thinking about Nevada players with the same skills. I have been fortunate to see a ton of players, and in Nevada I’ve seen most of them more than once. What players possess the best skills I’ve seen this year? This article is dedicated to them.
Best Shooter: Noah Taitz 6’3 SG Bishop Gorman 2020 (#3PHN 2020) – Hardest category to choose. At the end of the day, Taitz’s reputation for making clutch shots in big spots won out.
Best Athlete: M’Wani Wilkinson 6’6 SF Bishop Gorman 2020 (#4PHN 2020) – One of the best run and jump athletes in the nation.
Best Perimeter Defender: Anthony Hunter 5’11 PG Durango 2020 (#7PHN 2020) (featured image) – Lockdown defender who can dominate a game on the defensive end.
Best Interior Defender: Jaylon Lee 6’8 C Arbor View 2020 (#14PHN 2020) – Lee uses fundamentals and position to battle for every inch in the paint.
Best Rebounder: Darnell Washington 6’8 C Desert Pines (#13PHN 2020) – State’s leading rebounder is simply too big, too strong.
Best Versatility: Matthew Morton 6’5 SF Boulder City 2021 (#31PHN 2021) – Morton is an excellent playmaker from the 3 position. One of those “not great at any good at every” type player.
Best Passer: Daishen Nix 6’5 PG Trinity International 2020 (#1PHN 2020) – One of the best prep passers to come along in a while.
Best Rim Protector: Anthony Swift 6’7 SF Desert Pines (#5PHN 2021) – Easy to see why DP is a 4A contender. Swift is a long run and jump athlete that alters shots.
Best Scorer: Sebastian Mack 6’1 SG Durango H.S 2023 (#1PHN 2023) – Freshmen or not, he gets buckets like very few players I’ve seen. Has the chance to be prep version of Lou Williams this season.
Best Upside: Darnell Fizer 6’4 SG Silverado 2023 (#4PHN 2023) – JR Smith clone who has a chance to be a special player. Already has a signature skill, and has the size and agility to defend multiple positions. I’m high on his upside because many of the skills he lacks can be easily taught.
Best Handle: Milos Uzan 6’3 PG Desert Pines 2022 (#3PHN 2022) – Savy handles with the ability to use all COD’s effectively.
Best Low Post Scorer: Joshua Jefferson 6’6 SF Liberty (#4PHN 2022) – Jefferson has an array of post moves that he loves to go to. Dancer’s feet with soft hands.
Best Driver: Julian Strawther 6’6 SF Liberty 2020 (#2PHN 2020) – This one was kind of obvious. Stawther has the chance to be special because he is a shooter first, however, when he makes his mind up to go to the rim, no one can stop him.
Best Physical Specimen: Jhadon Banks 6’5 SF Canyon Springs 2020 – Banks fits the “looks the part” description. Go to any gym and pick teams, and he’ll probably be selected first.
Best Undervalued Prospect: (Tie) – Braden Lamar 6’5 SG Bishop Gorman/ Alexander Spaight 6’0 PG Canyon Springs 2020 Lamar: I love guys that have been on the floor for winning teams. Lamar has good size for his position and a signature skill. Spaight: If he stays healthy, Spaight is going to be an all-state player. Professional scorer at the high school level.
Best Sleeper: – Coleman Lemke 6’7 SF Faith Lutheran – His recent growth spurt is an obvious factor, combine his skill set and you have an interesting prospect on your hands.
Best P&R Guard: Jaycob McBath 6’0 PG American Prep Academy 2021 (#19PHN 2021) – P&R basketball should count as a signature skill. McBath has a mature understanding of how to make the correct read and decision every time.
Best Under 6’0: Anthony Hunter 5’11 PG Las Vegas Knicks 2020 – Great run and jump athlete for his size. Elite perimeter defender.
Best Effort Player: Faizon woods 5’11 PG Legacy (#70PHN 2020) – Max effort player, willing to sacrifice his body for the good of the team.
