Nowadays, the bar has been raised, and every team is stacked with high flyers. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the top run and jump athletes in Nevada.
M’Wani Wilkinson 6’6 SF Bishop Gorman 2020 (#4PHN 2020) – Any list of spectacular athletes must start with MW. I don’t mean just in Nevada but anywhere in the country. I watched him play a ton this summer, and there were very few games where he wasn’t the best athlete on the floor. Walking highlight reel that will put people on posters off lobs, tj’s and straight-up rim flushes.
Anthony Swift 6’6 PF Desert Pines 2021 (#5PHN 2020) – Swift’s length and competitive nature make him a scary athlete. He can dunk on you and is a threat to catch lobs and tip dunks. However, his athleticism shows up in his rim protection. Guards have to feel a lot better, knowing that they have a player like him behind them.
Dayshawn Wiley 6’2 SG Desert Pines 2021 (#10PHN 2021) – One of those guards that feels better is Wiley. You would first have to beat him off the dribble just to get to Swift. On the offensive end, DW is known for dunking on people on accident. He has an explosive quick twitch and gets off the floor in a hurry.
Jhadon Banks 6’5 SF Canyon Springs 2020 (#31PHN 2020) – I’m telling you right now, Jhadon Banks’ senior season is going to be a movie. He has the kind of explosiveness that sneaks up on you. A big strong athlete with powerful leaping ability, he can put you in the basket in a hurry. Off dribble drives, what looks like layups for some, will be highlight reels for Banks.
Austin Anderson 6’0 SG Centennial 2020 (#45PHN 2020) – You may not look at Anderson and think of him as an athlete. That is until you realize that Volleyball players have ridiculous hops and he is one of the best Volleyball players in the state. Anderson is an explosive 2-foot jumper that loves to catch tip jams and lobs.
Drake Booker 6’2 PG Foothill 2021 (#15PHN 2021) – Booker is the epitome of run and jump. He has the quickness and shiftyness to separate and finish. Booker has two-foot bounce, but can also finish hard of one. He is one of the most explosive PG’s in the state.
Martell Williams 6’1 SG Silverado 2020 (#7PHN 2020) – Speaking of explosion you have Martell Williams. It’s enough that he has some of the best quick twitch muscles in the state. He’s also built like Sequon Barkley. At 6’1 Williams can drop step dunk like a power forward. Explosive run and jump athlete that must be identified at all times in transition.
Jaxon Pillich 6’4 SF Trinity International 2020 (#17PHN 2020) – Would love to see Pillich and Williams on the floor together. Pillich is a crazy two-foot jumper that is also built like an NFL halfback. He plays with the best passer in the country, so I expect to see several Sportscenter top 10 like plays from him this season.
Aaron Price 6’5 PF Liberty 2022 (#14PHN 2022) – Price is a get off the floor athlete. He does it primarily off two feet, but he has the power and explosion to go through people. Liberty is stacked, and while teams are focused on Strawther, Jefferson and others, Price should have a free run at the rim.
Osiris Grady 6’6 PF Silverado 2023 (#2PHN 2023) – Have to give some love to the young guys. Grady is an up and coming run and jump athlete. He needs a little run-up to the rim, but once he gets his momentum, he is fearless and loves to finish through contact.
