M.J. Rice is the ultimate slasher
While the opponent wasn’t chock full of talent, 2022 guard M.J. Rice played well and paced Durham Academy on offense. Rice was their fearless leader on offense, finishing with 28 points, 11 rebounds and a block, with 23 points coming in the second half. He showed poise getting to the rim and knocked down a 3-pointer as his team got the easy victory.
Keep an eye out for Toby Harris
2021 forward Toby Harris is a prospect to watch on this roster with his ability to stretch the floor with his 3-point shooter. Harris knocked down four 3-pointers to the tune of 17 points in Durham Academy’s opening season victory over Durham School of Arts. He also had his first official dunk of his high school career. He’s really improved his strength in the weight room and it’s starting to pay off. He also had six rebounds in the game.
Sharing the Ball Shouldn’t Be an Issue
Durham Academy finished the game with 18 total assists in the game with 2022 guard Nik Graves leading the way in the passing game. He did more than just score the basketball, finishing with six assists in the game. Behind him, Brent Randleman (2021) and Jayde Braswell (2024) finished with four assists apiece. It’s early but if the Cavaliers can spread the wealth as they did tonight, things should come rather easy for them as they look to have a strong 2019-20 campaign.
