Corner Canyon vs. American Fork
The first heavyweight match-up will be Part 1 of 3 as Corner Canyon will face off against American Fork their new region foe. Corner Canyon is making the move from 5A to 6A in seamless fashion. Last years 5A and 6A Champions will go head to head in game one of the season. American Fork comes into this season with a depleted roster as they loose almost all contributors from last years State Championship team. They do return one of the best freshman in last years class Noah Moeaki. On the other hand Corner Canyon returns a lot of experience from a program that plays almost everyday in the off-season these young players are ready to prove themselves. The biggest surprise this off-season is the development of Junior 6’6 Forward, Carter Welling who has developed a great inside outside game. With great shooting from Trace Ross and Peyton Call CCHS will be a tough team to face. Two quick PG’s in Phil Harris and Tyler Thompson not to include some size from Josh Chandler look for this to be another fun year for the Chargers. In the past American Fork has pumped out more D1 basketball players than anyone in the state so don’t be surprised is AF has some players that are not house hold names show up. They are well coached and play hard.
This should be a good game against two well known programs. Both teams are well coached and have next level players on their teams. Corner Canyon might have the advantage with their experience in Part 1 of this trilogy.
Davis vs. Bountiful
The Davis Darts bring in a loaded team with shooters all over the court. They will be lead by Jake Sampson but he isn’t the only one on Davis’s roster that can shoot the deep ball. With most of their players around the same heights they will likely switch almost everything. Trevan Leonhardt will be key this year. Bountiful on the other hand has one of the most recognizable bigs in the state in Robert (Boi Boi) Whaley. The 6’5 250 + pound frame is going to be a hard cover for anyone this year. Add returning leading scorer 6’3 Cameron Chism and we are set for another great match-up between these two schools. Last year Davis pulled out a 4 point win. This years game will likely be a close one as well.
Watching both of these teams play this Summer and Fall it will be hard to call. Whoever is more efficient from long rage will win this game.
Pleasant Grove vs. Timpview
This is going to be one of those very intriguing games as Pleasant Grove starts the post-Van Komen era and Timpview looks to regain its notoriety in Utah County. There is a lot of good players that will be featured on the floor. The fun match-up will be start freshman PG Jordan Ross vs. Coleman Ford. Coleman is one of the toughest smartest PG’s in the state and we have yet to see what Ross can do in a high school game. Should be a fun match-up. Kael Mikkelsen and transfer Isaac Vaha will be tough to contest against. Jake Whalin is another young player to keep an eye on.
Should be a fun game this one is a toss up
