6 teams played in the prep event with 3 from CALI (Scale Prep, CIBA and RON Institute), 1 from Canada (North Star Prep) and 2 from AZ (AZ Compass and PHH Prep). Multiple college coaches were on hand taking in the action.
Here were some of the standouts from Friday night:
2020
Makur Maker PF 7’0 CIBA (CA)
-The big headliner was the pro prospect Maker. There is not much Maker can’t do. He handles the ball better then almost all his size and can make 3’s off the catch and has unreal agility finishing. He rebounds well and can go coast to coast on any play. He is a plus athlete and has smart court awareness to make plays for others. His length and size are shocking to see how much bigger he is then basically everyone. He seems to be a little more fluid then cousin Thon Maker. Don’t be surprised to see him declare for the 2020 NBA draft after the HS season is over since this is technically his post grad year.
Cameron Noel PG 6’0 CIBA (CA)
-The CIBA team struggled overall handling the top AZ prep teams but Maker got his numbers and Noel played well. He is a strong defensive PG with length. He has a great body and speed. He is very shifty with the ball and likes to take contact and score it. He is a good catch 3pt shooter and shows good pace to his game and hesitates well to get into the lane to score.
Carter Murphy SG 6’4 PHH Prep
-Catch and shoot 3pt specialist who squares up perfectly. He has a high IQ and is very crafty inside the paint to score it. He isn’t an explosive player but his consistent shooting and having the ability to score it easily makes him attractive to colleges. He plays a little upright at times on defense but is strong and plays physical.
2021
Ky Oliver SF 6’4 PHH Prep
-Oliver just keeps impressing vs any kind of match-up. His energy is off the charts. He doesn’t stop working on both ends of the court. He is a capable 3pt shooter off the catch and had some nice driving layups in traffic but his defensive activity is as good as it gets. (Closing out to shooters, blocking shots inside and playing the passing lanes well.) Many of his points are straight off hustle and it doesn’t hurt that he is one of the best athletes in the state.
Emmanuel Ugbah SF 6’4 North Star Prep (CAN)
-Long wing with a great body. Has close to a 6’10 wingspan and gets downhill well and can finish through contact as he power dribbles to the cup. Uses his athleticism well to defend inside and out. He is a capable 3pt shooter who can get hot quickly. His release is slow currently but has nice stretches of consistency. He is active on the glass and is shifty with the ball getting to his spots on the court.
Brett Hardt Jr CG/SG 6’2 160 PHH Prep
-Catch 3pt shooter who is improving as a driver as he was better then usual getting to the rim. His best skill will always be his shooting from deep. He still has a thin body and needs to add strength but his mind and skill are higher then most.
AZ Compass Prep entire roster were just completely dominant.
Sincere Parker, Seryee Lewis, Xavier Dusell, Ariel Bland, Maxwell Lewis, Frankie Collins and Josh Primo all showed you why they are talented prospects.
