Question:
What’s the biggest strength of your game?
Avarie Simpson:
I feel like the strongest part of my game is getting others involved. I consider myself a pass first point guard so getting my teammates involved is my strength I’d say.
Question:
What was the most exciting part of being recruited?
Avarie Simpson:
The most exciting part about being recruited to me, would probably be the fact that coaches actually have interest in me, and want to develop a relationship with me. I think that is awesome to be able to experience.
Question:
You recently committed to Great Lakes Christian. How does it feel?
Avarie Simpson:
I feel relieved not having to worry about making my decision later on. I can focus on the upcoming season with my teammates at Northview and enjoy it without stressing out about where I’ll spend my next four years.
Question:
What made Great Lakes Christian the right choice for you?
Avarie Simpson:
Coach Rich, Coach Harr, the guys…The relationship we’ve all built within the past couple months has been great. And then having taken the visit there and getting a feel for it, being around the guys as well as other on campus, it felt right, right then and there so as for making the decision I felt as if that was the place to be.
Question:
What part of college basketball are you looking forward to?
Avarie Simpson:
I’m really looking forward to the challenge, getting used to the faster pace of the game, higher level competition. It’s exciting to think about, as well as my potential. I’m really excited to see myself as a student-athlete in the next four years and how much I’ll have improved and what I’ll become.
Question:
What are your goals for your senior season?
Avarie Simpson:
My goals for my senior season are to make others better, continue to lead my teammates in the right direction in the classroom as well as on and off the court. Lastly for me though, I want to improve my game more and more each and every day. When you get in a gym you either get better or you get worse. I want to reach my full potential and do whatever it takes to get to where the team and I want to be, and that’s trying to win championships.
Question:
What’s your best moment in basketball so far?
Avarie Simpson:
I’ll never ever forget last seasons district championship game against Forest Hills Northern. All the energy and emotions that had been brought to that gym is unforgettable. Being able to compete in a game like that is something special and I’ll always be thankful for it. What’s happened to me recently though as a basketball player I’ll always remember. Not all high school athletes are able to play at the next level so being given the opportunity to do so is truly a blessing.
Question:
What professional player has a game that reminds you of yourself?
Avarie Simpson:
Someone I’d like to compare myself to is Coby White. There’s nothing too flashy in my game, much like his. The quickness and intensity within my defensive side converting over to my playmaking abilities on offense and my ability to score when needed. So as for someone I’d say I see myself in, it’d probably be Coby White.
