L.C. Anderson High School is coming into the young season with a lot of intrigue. The Trojans were on the outside looking in during the playoffs last season. With the exception of last season, Coach Daniel Pittsford has made the playoffs every year as Anderson’s Head Coach. Watching Coach Pittsford’s teams play, you see competitiveness, communication, and fluid execution. These are all signs of great coaching by Coach Pittsford and his staff. This year’s team is no different. Pittsford does not have a player over 6’4, so expect the Trojans to be aggressive on the ball defensively and switch up defenses from time to time to compensate for lack of size.
There are two absolute facts about the Trojans that opposing teams have to face. The Trojans are a year older, and the Seniors are determined to return to the Texas State Playoffs. Because of these facts, teams are going to have to bring their “A” game in order to beat the Trojans.
Max Smith can score in his sleep. Smith is the reigning 6A District 25 Offensive MVP and was named 1st Team All District last season. The 6’1 Senior averaged 21 points a game last year against opposing team’s best defenders and double teams night in and night out. Smith is a 4-year varsity letterman that has Division I and Division II schools showing strong interest.
Blake Spiller is Smith’s backcourt running mate. Spiller, also a 6’1 Senior, will take a lot of pressure off of Smith during games with his ability to handle ball pressure and shoot from deep. The coaching staff expect big things from Spiller.
As much as Max and Spiller will be the focus of opposing teams, Cody Grove and Dillon Breen are the glue to the Anderson Trojans Basketball Team. Grove and Breen are both Seniors that can guard 1 through 5 and are very good screen setters. Both players love doing the dirty work and their unselfish play is admirable. Players like Grove and Breen are needed in order to have a successful team and respected program.
Jack Francis is a talented 6’1 Sophomore that played on a really good 2018-2019 Anderson Freshman Team. Francis’ long range shooting ability will have to force teams to play him honest at all times. Francis, Smith, and Spiller will make teams spread out defensively because of their effective 3 point shooting.
