Today we highlight some of the best defenders in the 2022 class. Prospects could specialize in perimeter or post defense, we will be covering both styles of defense.
Sadraque Nganga 6’9 2022 F Hillcrest Prep
Sadraque is one of the most versatile freak athletes I’ve ever seen. The kid is 6’9 and is way too quick for anyone that tall to be. He has no business being as fast and mobile as he is at that height! Nganga is a intimidating presence on defense and I’ve seen him match up with quick guards on the perimeter and guard them with ease. Nganga is really a special athlete.
Mehki Mason 6’2 2022 G Chandler
Mason is one of my favorite perimeter defenders. The kid is so long and quick. You can tell that he really enjoys locking up his opponent. He can constantly apply pressure to his opponent and make them feel uncomfortable. If you somehow manage to get past him, he has the foot speed to catch up and the wing span to turn the shot away.
Micah Pierce 6’7 2022 F Mountain Pointe
Pierce may be one of the best shot blockers in the class overall. He has a really long reach and incredible leaping ability. Pierce definitely seeks out blocks and enjoys turning away shots. You pair up his height with his wingspan and athleticism and you have an elite shot blocker.
Dylan Anderson 6’10 2022 F Perry
I think most people think of Anderson as an offensive threat but I think he more than brings the same energy to the defensive side of the ball as well. He is more than capable of being one of the best defenders in the class due to his overall size/length and athleticism. Anderson is tirelessly working on guard skills and in doing so, he will get quicker and more agile than he already is. Imagine walking up the court and a 6’10 athlete is now guarding you who is able to keep up with your movement.
