Jonathan Kuminga is one of the best players in the nation regardless of class, while Trey Patterson is an elite talent that could potentially play in the McDonald’s All-American Game. The junior class is not just filled with great wings as some of the state’s top shooters are juniors. Here are the top shooters in the 2021 class.
Jaylen Blakes, 6’1 PG Blair Academy
Blakes may be seen as more of a driver, but he can make teams pay from behind the arc. The Blair Academy point guard has a good looking stroke and an ability to hit tough shots from deep. Blakes’ ability to attack the basket opens up his three-point shooting. He is not only one of the top juniors in New Jersey, but also one of the top shooters.
Noah Harris, 6’0 PG Rutgers Prep
Harris is lights out from behind the arc as he lit up Ranney School for 20 points. His range starts once he gets in the gym and has one of the quickest releases in the state. Harris only needs an inch of space to get his shot off and is almost unstoppable when he gets hot. He might be the top shooter in New Jersey as Harris knows how to fill up the scoreboard from behind the arc.
Justin Glover, 6’2 SG Hudson Catholic
Glover may not get the same recognition as some of his teammates, but he is Hudson Catholic’s top shooter. The 6’2 shooter is a marksman from behind the arc with deep range and a good looking stroke. He also has good handles and a quick release on the shot, making him a deadly option for the Hawks on the perimeter. Hudson Catholic needs a shooter to provide star sophomore Zion Cruz more driving lanes and Glover looks to be that guy.
Tazir Cantey, 6’0 PG Lindenwold
Cantey has already eclipsed the 1,000-point mark and is an obvious choice to make this list. He has a lightning quick release which he uses to get shots over bigger defenders. Cantey’s range starts once he crosses half court and has the ability to make three-pointers in bunches. He knocked down seven three-pointers in last year’s season opener against Paulsboro, which made him a lock for the state’s top shooters. Cantey has always had the reputation of being an elite scorer and should see a big increase in offers this season.
Kyree Henry, 6’0 CG St. Thomas Aquinas
Henry may be an undersized combo guard, but he is an elite shooter. His release is lightning quick, which is why his three-pointers rarely get blocked. Henry has one of the smoothest strokes in the state and challenges Harris for the deepest range in New Jersey. Wake Forest commit Quadry Adams needs an elite shooter to help space the floor and Henry has the ability to do that for St. Thomas Aquinas this season.
