Seniors Demontreal Crutchfield (6’2″ SG, pictured above) and Nate Goodlow (6’2″ PG) said they don’t plan on missing their window.
Nate Goodlow“We’ve gotta be level-headed, and get past what we couldn’t get past last year,” Crutchfield said.
“We wanna go out as a team, we wanna get over that hump,” Goodlow said. “We wanna make it back to where we were last year and we want to win it this time.
“We walk past that silver trophy every day.”
Lenny Hatchett (22nd yr.) said he believes the Eagles’ versatility will be critical toward their goal of reaching the State Tournament again.
“We’ve gotta lineup where we can play some different styles with the mix of our young talent that we have,” Hatchett said.
Despite the tenure of Hatchett’s aforementioned back-court tandem, the Eagles will rely on a few underclassmen to play significant minutes in other parts of the floor.
Keyondre YoungNamely, freshman Terry McMorris (6’4″ F) will be pivotal in anchoring the post for the Eagles, while freshman Brandon Garrison (6’5″ F) will use his length to protect the rim.
Keyondre Young (6’5″ Jr. SF) will see a boost in his playing time from last season thanks to big improvement in his ball-handling, shot selection and competitive rebounding.
Del City will also rely on a few football athletes to contribute and potentially start for the Eagles at the cessation of the playoffs.
Kyren Williams (2020 6’3″ C) was an outstanding piece to Del City’s offensive productivity last year and will return to his role in the post for the Eagles once he’s done terrorizing quarterbacks on the gridiron.
Kyren WilliamsAlso returning from the turf is Sherrod Davis (6’1″ Jr. W), a contributor on last year’s semifinalist team who will fill a similar role this season, Hatchett said.
“Our ultimate goal is to get back [to State],” Hatchett said, “we would would like to get there, but we have to take one game at a time and take care of those opportunities first.
“I think our guys are understanding of the magnitude of the opportunity to play for a State Championship,” Hatchett added. “Hopefully that can fuel them and they can teach some of these younger guys to get back there.”
