BEST ATHLETE | JAMES WOOD | ST. JOHN’S ‘21
At 6-foot-6, James Wood looked like the best athlete in the gym. He’s a lob threat and a rim-runner who demonstrates good coordination and agility. Wood is a standout centerfielder for the baseball team which explains where he got those attributes.
BEST HELP DEFENDER | TYMU CHENERY | EPISCOPAL ‘20
As a senior, it’s only right that Tymu Chenery understands his help-side responsibilities. The 6-foot-6 Quinnipiac commit was active and alert on the defensive end. Chenery blocked shots, hustled back in transition, and secured rebounds out of his area.
BEST MISMATCH| GARRETT JOHNSON | EPISCOPAL ‘21
The main takeaway about Garrett Johnson’s performance today was that he has improved as a shot creator. This makes the 6-foot-6 wing even more difficult to defend. Most of the time, Johnson found himself matched up against the opposing big and was able to keep him off balance because he is a threat to shoot or attack the rim off the bounce.
BEST MOTOR | JOHN SQUARE | ST. JOHN’S ‘20
John Square was all over the floor, literally. The active 6-foot-6 forward did not hesitate to dive on the floor to secure a 50/50 ball. Square has quick reactions and a knack for making hustle plays.
BEST PAINT GETTER | JOHN WILSON | ST. JOHN’S ‘20
John Wilson used his ability to change speeds effectively as he looked to get downhill consistently. He’s a great ball-handler who enjoys getting into the heart of the defense and making plays.
BEST REBOUNDER | AMANI HANSBERRY | ST. JOHN’S ‘23
There are many things that Amani Hansberry did well today. One of the things he did at a high-level was rebound. Hansberry has great hands and his body seems to have improved since the summer. He’s extremely coordinated and is a relentless offensive rebounder. On the defensive end, Hansberry is adept at boxing out and moving bodies in the paint so that he can get in good position to collect defensive boards.
BEST SCORER | DARIUS JOHNSON | EPISCOPAL ‘21
After his 11-point first quarter, Darius Johnson had the full attention of SJC’s defense. Whether he was creating space for himself on the perimeter or getting into the lane and using his superb body control to finish in traffic, the standout junior guard was extremely difficult for his opponents to contain.
BEST TALKER | JACK FITZPATRICK | EPISCOPAL ‘20
Even before the game had begun, Jack Fitzpatrick was often heard instructing his teammates. His leadership intangibles were evident throughout this contest as well. Fitzpatrick is a great communicator who makes winning plays.
BEST TWO-WAY PLAYER | ISHMAEL LEGGETT | ST. JOHN’S ‘20
Ishmael Leggett did a bit of everything for the Cadets. He guarded the opposing team’s best player and did a good job. Offensively, Leggett showcased his playmaking and scoring ability. His passing has to be one of the most underrated aspects of his overall game.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | MALIK MACK | ST. JOHN’S ‘23
Malik Mack should be proud of his performance today. The southpaw freshman plays at a good pace. Mack showed that he can run the offense and make an impact defensively as well.
