Tommy Apodaca- Lutheran
Tommy was one of my favorite point guards to watch at the fall showcases. He is always one of the quickest players on the court and uses that to get many steals to run the fast break. His handles allow him to get to the bucket, hit pull up jumpers, and dish the ball out to open teammates. He will definitely be a guy to watch out for as a member of the exciting Lutheran team.
AJ Guiao- Doherty
AJ has some of the best handles in the state, he can make ankle breaking moves to cause separation from defenders. He has an intensity on the defensive side of the ball that I love to see, he gets super low and can lock down defenders. On the offensive end he plays his role and passes the ball, then scores when needed. Watch out for him and Doherty this year.
Alonzo Paul- Regis Jesuit
Alonzo is a guy who gets the microwave badge, he can score in bunches with attacking inside and out. He is on the shorter side but it allows him to get low and dribble past defenders then finish with a floater, lay up, or pass it out.
Markus Ramirez- Sand Creek
Markus is one of the best shooters in his class and by watching him it seems he has limitless range. This year could be his coming out year as a top scorer in the state. I am going to be on the lookout for him.
Rashawn Wilson- Denver East
Now many people who know Colorado basketball well, would not say Rashawn’s under the radar but casual viewers may not know him. Last year he came off the bench at East, he averaged 10.6 points, and his summer season with the Colorado Hawks was cut short by injuries. His role at East should be a lot bigger this year. He is one the most athletic guards in the state. He can get up and dunk at 5’7, and is a tenacious defender who tends to start fast breaks. Definitely watch out for him and this talented East squad.
Mateo Magna- Northfield
Mateo is one of the bigger point guards in his class at 6’3. He can score on all three levels: hit threes, floaters, and drive to the bucket. His height helps him take advantage of match-ups with smaller guards. This season with a lot of talent around him at Northfield, it should open up lanes for him to score and facilitate the ball with ease.
