It’s very important to have solid backcourts in order to compete for a state title. Having a solid frontcourt is very rare in the state of Tennessee since this state is guard heavy.

I have paid close attention to the guards in Division II Class A and AA. I went to see Fayette Academy Monday afternoon to see what first year head coach Brandon Bradford has. In past weeks, I have been to Briarcrest, Harding Academy, Lausanne, FACS, Tipton-Rosemark Academy and MUS.

Let’s just say I have been all over the place. I have seen enough to put together who, I think, have the best backcourts in both leagues.

Here’s what I have:

Division II Class A

Jalen Bo Montgomery and Nick Floyd, Lausanne: Montgomery averaged five assists per game last season. Montgomery should see his dimes go up this season with senior forward Johnathan DeJurnett and junior big man Moussa Cisse on the floor. The Lynx should have, at least, three guys average double figures in scoring. Floyd is only 5-foot-8, but he’s a solid defender. Floyd is very scrappy. His presence will be felt throughout the season.

Cam Donegan and Alex Anderson, Tipton-Rosemark Academy: The Rebels adding Donegan
