Here were some of the best slashers from the event:
Gannon Ahrendt, 2023, Luverne, Minn.
Ahrendt was one of the best overall players at the event Sunday despite being one of the youngest players in attendance. At 6-foot-3, Ahrendt has great length for a guard and he made a living getting into gaps and into the paint before either scoring in traffic or spoonfeeding teammates for easy buckets.
Andrew Walter Andrew Walter 6'3" | SG Harrisburg | 2022 SD , 2022, Harrisburg, S.D.
Walter isn’t the biggest, strongest or most explosive guard, but he did a great job getting into gaps in the defense with solid dribble moves and change of speeds. His floater game was solid, as he routinely got shots up before help defenders could arrive.
Joseph Utecht, 2022, SF Washington, S.D
Utecht puts constant pressure on the defense with his speed and ability to get into the paint and finish. His attacking mindset and explosiveness allowed him to consistently break down defenses and either score or collect assists.
Jamison Helmers, 2020, Okoboji, Iowa
Helmers was one of the best overall scorers Sunday and he did his best work getting into the teeth of the defense and making plays. First-row defenders rarely stayed in front of him as he used a variety of dribble-moves and change-of-direction moves to gain advantages on his opposition.
Dillon Gestring Dillon Gestring 6'4" | SF Vermillion | 2021 State SD , 2021, Vermillion, S.D.
Gestring showed all sorts of scoring ability Sunday, knocking down jumpers, scoring in transition and getting involved as a cutter. But his best work may have come when he was breaking down primary defenders and finishing at the rim. He’s got the quickness and skill to get by his initial man and the length and touch to score effectively in contested areas.
