AJ Adams (2021) | 6-4 SF | Findlay
Adams tips passes and deflects shots. First of all, he has a true nose for the ball. He lurks then pounces when he sees a chance to go for a loose ball or sneak up on a ball-handler. Second, Adams’ length and athleticism allow him to make those plays in traffic. He also plays with balance. Forces opponents to hit contested shots when defending the wing. Third in the TRAC last season in rebounding, too, at 8.0 per game.
Cameron Awls (2020) | 5-11 PG | Toledo Central Catholic
Quick defensive slides and a low stance allow Awls to defend the drive extremely well. Takes charges. Defends with his chest and avoids reaching in. Very good hands. Although he often defends the wing for the Irish, Awls is very suited to defend point guards in college.
Josiah Fulcher (2020) | 6-2 SG | Lima Senior
Fulcher’s athleticism is an asset in defending the drive, contesting shots, and rebounding. One of the top rebounding guards in the TRAC last season at 5.3 per game. A lot of his boards are a byproduct of his instincts, though, and that’s important to note. He’s impressive when it comes to being in the right place and knowing where the ball is heading. It’s his ability to get there (i.e. athleticism, speed, leaping ability) that separates Fulcher.
Joey Holifield (2020) | 6-2 PG | Cardinal Stritch
Holifield defends at a high-major level. He is extremely physical, quick, and smart. Holifield can actually dictate where his man is going to go because of how strong he is. Anticipates plays. Capable of defending the post on switches. Averaged 6.7 rebounds per game last season.
Khalil Luster (2022) | 5-4 PG | Lima Senior
Luster has dynamic lateral quickness, beating guys to their spots regularly. Often forces opponents to pick up their dribble to avoid turnovers. Very communicative player. His ability to stick to his man at the top of the key allows his wings to play aggressively in the passing lanes, too, because they know Luster seldom needs help. Sneaky hands.
Jadakis Mack (2020) | 6-4 SG | Lima Senior
Mack is explosive and possesses vast lower-body strength. The power allows him to jump in and out of position with quickness to cut off drives. He rebounds with his head darn-near at the rim. Strong body that can absorb contact.
Adrian Michael (2020) | 5-10 G | Start
High-motor competitor with lateral quickness and a high-IQ. Good recognition of when to switch and Michael communicates on screens. Defends opposing point guards. Chases down loose ball rebounds, grabbing an impressive 6.3 boards per game last season.
Dimitri Mistopoulos | 5-9 G | Toledo St. John’s
Compact guard at a muscular 5-foot-9, 175-pounds. The Miami (OH) football commit brings an edge as a point-of-attack defender. Able to sit down and slide up the floor when he picks up full-court. Forces point guards to play through bumps. Takes charges. Hustles.
Jamiya Neal (2021) | 6-6 SF | Rogers
Phenomenal athlete with length and springy legs. Neal can defend most positions. Keeps his arms waving so he can be disruptive. Very effective rebounder. Pokes the ball away from shaky ball-handlers. Side note: Neal turns deflections into two points very quickly in the open floor.
Ketaan Wyatt (2020) | 6-3 PG | Rogers
Wyatt’s length is most noticeable on the defensive side of the floor. He stands a menacing 6-foot-3 against small point guards and often shuts-down undersized scorers with his length. Possesses upside on this end of the floor, too, as he continues to add size to his frame.
