The Lake Superior Conference Preview
The Lake Superior Conference is seven teams strong, five from Minnesota and two from Wisconsin.
Conference Commentary
Potential Top Ten: Hermantown
Hermantown will start the season as a top 20 team in Class AAA basketball in Minnesota with Peter Soumiss leading the way and three other key players returning. With the right chemistry this year you could see Hermantown jump into that top ten. Hermantown won the league last year and with more talent returning than any other squad, they will be the favorites this year.
Compete with Most: Duluth Denfeld, Superior, Cloquet, Duluth Marshall
Armon Freeman and Josh Reinertsen are returning all league players with 20 point per game abilities plus there is depth returning around them. Denfeld was 12-15 last season and they have the ability to be much better than that. Superior has been a solid program and they are still likely to be that again, but so many new players have to step into big roles. Joey Barker is the only returning player back from last year’s rotation. Cloquet is traditionally a tough opponent and that will continue with Adam Schneider leading the way. But is the depth there? Samuel Lohn is a player we at Prep Hoops really like and his team won 11 games last year. Problem is Duluth Marshall has a lot of issues winning games in this league. They should be much better.
Rebuilding: Proctor, Ashland
Proctor relied on seniors for a lot of last year’s production so double figure wins will be tough with so many pieces that need to be replaced. And speaking of replacing players, Ashland’s rotation for much of last year, was all seniors. Kevon Powell played for part of the year but the rest of the team was all seniors. Ashland has to replace a full line-up from a team that struggled.
