Conference Commentary
State Championship Contenders: Minnehaha Academy
Obviously the Redhawks are considered the best team in the state of Minnesota so of course they are the biggest favorite of all time to win a league that is made up of small school teams. The question will be all year, where does Minnehaha Academy rank nationally and can any team in Minnesota beat them?
Potential Top Ten: Breck, Blake
Breck won’t fall as far as people think they will. They upgraded at coach with Tim Sessions taking over and while David Roddy’s massive numbers need to be replaced, Breck has six of their eight players returning including a junior in Jared Morton and a sophomore in Jimmy Koch who are considered top 100 level players in the state. And at 6-foot-6 Andy DeMaris gives them an experienced senior big. Blake should be able to take the step to surpass Breck this year as they have more talent and similar experience. Blake’s issue will always be size, but they have the talent to win many games.
Compete with Most: St Paul Academy
SPA has a returning 16 point per game scorer in junior Adam Holod who has two years in front of him of likely scoring 20 plus a game. Holod will be solid, but matching last year’s 17-win season will mean that Alex Herrmann, Griffin Thissen, and Liam Will step in do the job that Ryan Moore, Andrew Johnson, and Will Christakos did as seniors.
Rebuilding: Providence Academy, Mounds Park Academy
There is no other way to describe things for Providence Academy than a rebuild. They lost seven of their top eight players to graduation plus the head coach moved on. Mounds Park won only four games last year and lost two of their top three players.
