Conference Commentary
State Championship Contenders: Perham
The Yellowjackets are 109-14 the last four season of play and you can expect that 27 win average to continue as Perham starts the year as a preseason top ten team. Diggins and Morris are the juniors on their way up, Rasmussen is the senior leader, and Coach Dave Cresap continues to develop more and more players giving this team depth.
Potential Top Ten: DGF, Barnesville
DGF won 19 games a season ago and things are looking up with a solid senior class led by Aiden Leach and a youth movement with one of the state’s better freshman, Owen Leach. Barnesville is in a very similar spot to DGF in that they won 18 games and they also have a top all conference player in Adam Tonsfeldt plus some good young players. They difference is that Barnesville is bigger up front.
Compete with Most: Pelican Rapids
The Vikings broke in a lot of new faces last season leading to a ten win year. There are only a few seniors to replace and the win total should increase but how much is tough to know.
Rebuilding: Hawley, Breckenridge, Frazee
Hawley was 23-5 last year but only had one non-senior in the line-up for most of the year. There is a good group of sophomores ready to step into big roles so Hawley will be good but this is a totally fresh start. Breckenridge had a nearly full of seniors and that included Noah Christensen on his way to NDSU, and they still finished just over .500. There is going to be a lot of new faces and all players will be in new roles. Frazee could become a ten win team behind the Fleishers.
