The one day event had 11 teams including Sheldon High School last years Nor Cal Open Champs and the runner up Modesto Christian. It was an opportunity to see the areas top prospects while playing with their high school teams before the season begins. The games were played at Sacramento High School.
Sheldon Huskies (Sacramento CA) This is the team to beat, the Huskies go 9 or 10 deep, and might have the best starting 5 in Nor Cal. Leading the way will be super athletic guard 6’2 Xavion Brown 2020 improved outside game and Marcus Bagley 6’8 (Arizona St) 2020 who can score inside and out. The support will come from Josh Williams 6’1 2020. Darrin Tobias 6’6 2020. Pierce Davis 6’8 2020 all played on Pumas MB3 team throughout the summer and gained valuable experience. Xavier Brown 6’4 2020, Dontrell Hewlett 6’4 2020 and Yaru Harvey 6’2, 2021 all are expected to contribute.
Capital Christian (Sacramento CA) This team has a new coach who is still getting to know his team. They’re deep, athletic, and have good size and they don’t quit. When they find their identity they will be a problem for any opponent. It’s going to start with Caden Flowers 6’0 2021 Pt guard . A tough minded competitor who loves to compete. He’s improved his perimeter shot. He won’t let this team quit. Evan Johnson 6’4 2020 and Kendall Taylor 6’5 2020, provide slashing scoring and inside play for this team. This team is loaded with underclassmen. Sione Lose 6’3 2021 and Jonah Alvarez 6’3 2021 are expected to knock down 3’s, while Darrion Williams 6’5 2022 is a good outside in prospect with improved range and passing. Chico Lewis 6’6 2021 will provide some inside presence.
Sacramento High School (Sacramento CA) This team is deep and they were missing 3 key prospects who play football. Sac comes at you in waves, the coach goes with whoever is getting the job done. Miles Lewis 6’0 2020. A top Nor Call prospect in the class. Lewis has exceptional quickness and speed with the ball, he can create for himself, and works well involving others. His mid-range was falling all day. Alex Mize 6’2 2021 A shooter who can shoot, if he gets hot lookout! Marcellus Franklin 6’4 2022 was active all day. This long arm prospect finished well around the basket weather it was in half court sets or finishing in transition. He blocked shots, and plays solid on both ends. Luca Davis 6’4 2022 a rising prospect made his presence felt by rebounding, running the floor, and defending without scoring much.
Grant (Sacramento CA) AJ McGee 6’0 2020 Pt guard and Cory Yerger 6’1 2021 can be talked about as one of the best back-court duos in Nor Cal. McGee shows leadership in facilitating the offensive sets, he can hit the mid range pretty good and will knock down a deep 3. He’s a good pick-and-roll guard, and can score within the paint. Yerger poses all the skills necessary to excel at the next level. He’s got the handles, the hops and scoring ability to create his own shot, his court vision/ passing is underrated. He’s a competitor.
Monterey Trail (Elk Grove CA) Varrick Lewis 6’3 2023 is an up and coming prospect that plays an all around solid game and can knock down the 3 with some consistency. He can attack from the wings and finish in traffic.
