We’ll take a look at 20 of the best players in each classification to keep an eye on this winter. In Part III of our Class 3A series, we take a look at the final six standouts to monitor.
2021 Jaylon Moses, Xavier
The least accomplished player on this list, Moses has battled injuries throughout his first two high school seasons, but has the potential to become one of the best players in the state if he can stay healthy. The son of former Iowa player James Moses, Jaylon is a 6-8 combo forward with the ability to dominate defenders on the block, or stretch out and knock down 3s. A mobile forward who can defend multiple positions and do a bit of everything on the offensive end, he provides the type of versatility that teams covet on both ends of the floor.
2022 Karter Petzenhauser, Spencer
A 6-2 wing, Petzenhauser was among the most productive freshmen in the state last year, averaging 14.8 points a game for the Tigers. His 121 free throw attempts rank sixth among returnees in 3A, and his 52 assists ranked second on the team.
2022 Hogan Hansen, Waverly-Shell Rock
Another 2022 who was highly productive last season, Hansen led the Go-Hawks in scoring last year at 14.0 points a game and knocked down 50 3-pointers at a 37.6% clip. He also led W-SR in rebounding and assists last year.
2020 Daniel Wright, Sergeant Bluff-Luton
Also a standout quarterback on the gridiron, the 6-8 forward averaged 15.1 points a game last year for the Warriors while leading the team in rebounding (9.6), second in assists (83) and leading them in blocks with 15. He has the ability to score at all three levels, a dominant low-post scorer with the ability to stretch out to the arc and knock down 3s at a consistent rate as well.
2020 Will Henricksen, Marion
The 5-11 senior guard helped lead the Indians to their second consecutive state tournament last year, leading the team with 16.9 points a game and 49 made 3s (41.5%). A quick guard who is capable of getting red hot in a hurry, he can drop 30+ on any given night.
2020 Sean Peeters, Assumption
An undersized power forward at 6-4, Peeters is an athletic and incredibly active forward with great efficiency (55.4 FG%) and rebounding abilities. He battled injuries for much of last season but still averaged 16.2 points and 5.5 rebounds. With older brother Dylan Peeters graduated, Assumption will be Sean’s team this year, and he should have a dominant season.
