Less pure prospects, but every team goes hard and you can find a lot of good coaching to go along with it at times. In this article we take a look at the All-KMAC team, as well as a few other players to watch for.
First Team:
Trey Brininger (6’2” / G 2021 / Cardington-Lincoln): Last season Cardington won just three games, at the bottom of the conference in terms of wins. Trey is like a lot of small school student athletes that standout in multiple sports. Brininger should be that guy for the Pirates this season that will look to take a step forward. As a sophomore he was around 10 points a game, even going over the 20 point mark. In a bigger role this season expect more attempts for the junior as the primary scorer. Add in his athleticism, length on defense – don’t be surprised to see him mold into a solid two way threat.
Weston Melick (6’0” / G 2021 / East Knox): Melick is a multi sport athlete who excels in each of them. On the court Melick can get his own bucket with no problem. Has the ability to handle the ball and score it from a couple levels. As a sophomore putting up 14.4 points along with almost seven rebounds a game Melick is a name to know. One of the better players in the league last year will find himself on first team at the years end.
Lincoln Cunningham (6’1” / G 2021 / Fredericktown): Lincoln Cunningham broke onto the scene last season, but I think this season he could have an even bigger breakout. Most likely moving into a primary scoring role, Lincoln’s game could go from the low teens in scoring to closer around 20 a game. The Freddie’s will need all of his scoring output this season to replace what they lost. Cunninham can knock it down from deep and get to the cup, one of the better bucket getters’ in the league.
Carter Jones (6’4” / WF 2021 / Centerburg): The best college prospect in the KMAC is a must include here. Cater Jones is a 6-4 wing/forward that can handle it, as well as shoot it. Adding muscle and thinning his frame Jones is even more mobile then last winter, which means bad things for opponents. The junior will see a nice boost in scoring and rebounding, as he’s still the same force inside with the smooth left jump hook. Big season ahead!
Blake Miller (6’5” / PF 2020 / Northmor): As a junior Miller was a workhorse for the Golden Knights. Simply able to out muscle a lot of the conference, Miller gets what he wants at the rim. A rebounding machine that gathers a ton of putback opportunities. The senior is going to put up some big stats his last go around. The more he expands his face up game makes his play even more dangerous for opposing teams. A no brainer for first team, once again.
Second Team:
Ty Hatfield – Fredericktown
Hunter Mariotti – Northmor
Jackson Huffer – Mt. Gilead
Hayden Hankinson – Centerburg
Mick Mead – Centerburg
The KMAC is going to see a lot of new faces break through this season and we can’t wait to see it happen. Look forward to us digging in deeper with this conference this winter.
