Speaking of scary, we’ve looked at some senior and junior basketball players that are so good it’s scary. Now we will look at some sophomores that can scare us with how talented they are.
Emoni Bates (G/F, Ypsilanti Lincoln)
You simply can’t write this article without Bates being in it. He is a result of special talent combined with unparalleled hard work and determination. Bates can simply do it all, from battle in the paint to hitting a 3 pointer from NBA range. Bates is such a special prospect that he was recently featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Javaughn Hannah (SG, Mt. Clemens)
Hannah is, in my opinion, a top 100 prospect in the country. He’s a superb ball handler and has a scorers mindset. Hannah can break down a defender in a 1-on-1 matchup. He moves well without the ball and doesn’t need an offense to run through him. Hannah can drop 25 without ever isolating him.
Jack Karasinski (SF, Grand Rapids Catholic Central)
There has been a basketball explosion of sorts in the Grand Rapids area and Karasinski is evidence as to that pipeline being here to stay. He’s athletic and smooth on the wing with a terrific looking jumper. Karasinski has Division 1 potential.
Fletcher Loyer (G, Clarkston)
Loyer is a special talent that’s creating his own legend separate from his brother, Foster Loyer. Fletcher is a dangerous shooter, especially from the corner. He has a terrific mid range game, highlighted by a floater from just inside the free throw line.
Ty Rodgers (SF, Grand Blanc)
Rodgers and Emoni Bates may make the top 1-2 combo of prospects in Michigan since Chris Webber and Jalen Rose. Rodgers is an outstanding athlete that finishes at the rim with force. Rodgers is a star with a team first mentaility. He wants the accolades, but only after team success.
Brady Titus (PG, Tri-Unity Christian)
Division 1 coaches that want a downhill point guard that makes his teammates better need to watch Titus. He’s an aggressive defender that creates turnovers and uses them to push the ball in transition. Titus is efficient as well, keeping his turnovers very low.
Kyler Vanderjagt (SF, Northview)
Vanderjagt is a sophomore in high school in a grown man build. He’s a true 3 level scorer and a matchup nightmare. Vanderjagt can outmuscle and shoot over smaller defenders and take bigger opponents out on the perimeter.
