Speaking of scary, last week we looked at some senior basketball players that are so good it’s scary. Now we will look at some juniors that can scare us with how talented they are.
Pierre Brooks (2021, SG, Detroit Frederick Douglass)
In my opinion, Brooks is a top 100 senior prospect in the country. He can dominate in so many different ways, allowing him to always be a factor. Brooks is one the headiest players with one of the highest basketball IQ’s that I’ve seen in the midwest and beyond.
Kobe Bufkin (2021, CG, Grand Rapids Christian)
Bufkin exploded this spring and summer. The athletic lefty started garnering national attention as a top 60-100 player in the country. He can play on or off the ball with equal effectiveness. Bufkin has a swooping dribble drive that leaves defenders on his back shoulder.
Ty Fortney (2021, PF, Taylor Trillium)
Fortney absolutely blew up with the Downriver Bad Boys last grassroots season. He’s an elite post prescense that sends fear into the opposition. Fortney is a bouncy power forward. He won’t just dunk on you, he’ll dunk on you and make everyone remember it.
Legend Geeter (2021, F, River Rouge)
It’s frightening to think of a 6’8″ high school athlete that can play any position on the floor. He can handle the ball well enough to play point-forward and can bang in the paint, defending the post and grabbing boards. Geeter has as high of a ceiling as any player in the class of 2021.
Simon Wheeler (2021, PG, Ypsilanti Lincoln)
Wheeler is one of the best passers in Michigan. He doesn’t just hit the open man, but makes the man open because of his pass. Wheeler plays with flare and confidence, aggressively attacking the rim. I’m scared to see his assist total pairing with Emoni Bates this season.
Foster Wonders (2021, SF, Iron Mountain)
Wonders is in the process of creating a legend. He may end up as one of the best players to ever call northern Michigan home. Wonders is an athletic workhorse. Yes, he’s supremely skilled, but he’s still willing to outwork you as well. Wonders is a double-double waiting to happen.
