As he looks forward to another run at the Chiles Center this upcoming season and finding the right college program for his future, he can also reflect back on how this summer has prepared him for what’s ahead.
White ran this AAU campaign with Jordan Team Fly and was happy with how things went. “It was a little different than being on the circuit, not being at all the Nike events and stuff but the competition was good,” White said. “I think people don’t understand that there’s actually good competition that’s not on the circuit – you just have to go to the right events. The teams were good.”
Individually, White did his thing – especially offensively. He hit long range bombs and got to the hoop as usual but also facilitated for others. White also had goals on the other side of the ball as well.
“A big thing for me was paying attention on the defensive end,” White said. “Sometimes I feel like and people have told me that sometimes I tend to take breaks on defense, which is a bad habit of mine. So I’ve been trying to clean that up a little bit, especially when it’s actually game time going into this season.”
White’s college recruitment has picked up the past couple of months. He earned the scholarship offer from Western Oregon in July and attended their elite camp. Since then, Warner Pacific has also offered and White notes that Colorado Christian is close. Simon Fraser, Cal State San Marcos, Alaska Fairbanks, and Black Hills State are some of the other Division II schools who have been in contact.
“It’s starting to pick up and I’ll just see what happens with that,” White said. “I’ll just keep talking with them, getting them my school stuff, GPA, transcript, all that.
White indicates that a visit to Colorado Christian is being discussed, and Simon Fraser and Cal State San Marcos have also discussed him coming on campus. Through it all, White remains open and set on making a decision later rather than sooner.
“I’ll probably play it out unless I get something big that I love or I go on a visit and I fall in love with it,” White said. “I probably won’t commit until after the season.”
Speaking of which, White expressed his thoughts on this upcoming year. “Ahh, it’s going to be exciting but kind of sad,” White said. “I mean I’ve been starting since my freshman year so it’s all coming together so fast, my last season. Me and Evan (Inglesby) and some of these other guys have been playing together since like the 4th grade, so we’re hoping this last one is a good one.”
White currently ranks as the #6 player in the updated PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
