Recruiting Report: Zaakir Williamson
Slotted at number four in our recently updated 2021 MD/DC rankings is 6’7 power forward, Zaakir Williamson, of Rock Creek Christian. Williamson comes in as the number one power forward in our rankings and has a high major recruitment brewing with some of the more tough nosed programs in the country. I recently got a chance to evaluate him last month at the DMVElite80 where he continued to show off his dominance in the low post. He carried the momentum from the summer into this annual preseason event.
“My summer was a really productive summer. I picked up a lot of interest and good looks. I am just trying to compete at an all time high and overall the summer went really well.”
Williamson definitely looked at his best at the event and talked about his game when he is playing at this type of high level.
“When I am hot, I am hot and I can’t miss. When I am in my groove, I am just really feeling it. When I am cold, I just need to wait and see it fall in but at my best, I feel like a lot of people can’t guard me.”
With all the good that is coming for Williamson, a lot of high major schools are taken notice of the hard playing forward.
When asked which schools are showing interest, he said, “Purdue, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and UCF.”
He broke down a few of those schools for us.
Virginia Tech: “I love the coaching staff, they texted me a lot and send me a lot of letters. I am liking the vibe that I am getting up there from Virginia Tech.”
UCF: “I would like to visit UCF, I hear they have a beautiful campus and I talk to coach Johnny a lot and they are real good people.”
West Virginia: “I have taken an unofficial visit to West Virginia and I liked it. I would like to visit there again. I have had good conversation with coach Bob Huggins and coach Larry. It is just a real good vibe and I met the players. I like that it is kind of isolated so you have nothing really to do but focus on basketball.”
